Style me!

From lurking on a few thread, I've seen that there are lots of you who love poking around the Internet looking for ideas for people, so here's mine...

I'm due to return from mat leave and have been living in whatever is clean in the morning! My workplace is anything from smart casual (no denim) to professional depending on the day. I'd like a few nice pieces to start me off again as I feel I've lost myself a bit, style-wise.

I'm 5' 2, size 8-10, usually hourglass but with a slightly bigger tum than usual. I have a high waist/short torso.

I'm open to any ideas. I usually wear dresses with boots or trainers for ease, but I'm happy to be pushed put of my comfort zone a bit.

Got a post-mat-leave budget, but can splurge a little on something classic.

Please help!

What were you wearing before you got pregnant?

What did you dislike about it?
What did you love about it?

You can't have chucked everything.

I'm currently liking layered light weight knits with maxi skirts or cropped trousers

Mostly dresses really. I like the ease of them, but they are mostly the buffet style, baggy ones. They're maybe not the most flattering for my frame.

I haven't chucked anything... ever! Which I think is part of the problem, as I have so many clothes from the last 15 or so years, so I have lost myself now really in all the last versions of me.

I've got 3 kids now, so I need easy, versatile pieces. I like the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but have a fear of getting rid of things

I love that skirt... not sure the colour is me, but I like that idea

With three kids and back to work, you need stuff that is easy to wash.

What colours do you like?

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 29/09/2023 14:12

I think I'm a winter in the colour analysis... I do tend towards black, white, pale grey, pinks and navy. I'm not afraid of colour and will happily wear hot pink trousers and prints

I've decided to try to develop a style for myself, finally. I've gone for dark academia/Wednesday Addams.

Op, you are me im sure!

Also 5'2 and 8-10 about to return from mat leave! So im also looking for inspo

I ordered a few bits from cider before which I liked and I've now found quite a few bits which I may order for a return to work!

Think the vibe I'm going to go for is jumpers tucked into skirts with tights and some brogues or Chelsea style boots
Dresses
Cropped trousers, tops / cardigan

Here's some photos of the kind of thing I'm going to go for if it helps!

@febbabies2023 I love loads of those! Even the polo neck which I know doesn't suit me 😂

I've been looking at a lot of things on Cider, but have heard mixed reviews... how have you found the fit/quality?

@Longwhiskers that is lovely, bit a bit pricier than I've got the money for at the moment. I love Sezane but it's outside my price range for sure... kids are expensive!

I really like everything I've bought on there!
I've read the reviews and looked at the pictures of things I've wanted to purchase to see what others thought first and they've all turned out well!
I think the price point is good as well so it's a good starting point I think. The trousers are lovely, really flattering and not too long even though we're short 😂

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 29/09/2023 18:35

I think I'll give it a chance then..thanks @febbabies2023
It's the trousers that always seem to pop up in adverts , so they were what caught me eye. Glad they're not too short. Does it take ages to get delivered?

I can't remember how long delivery was but I can't remember it taking an age!

I've got the app too so if you do download it I've put a link below which gets you 20% off and free delivery too (I just checked to see if I had any codes on my app)

The trousers are what caught my eye originally too 😂

This was going to be my first port of call. Nobody needs to wear colours from their palette but it’s such a quick and easy way to hone in on style and get rid of the wardrobe overwhelm.

I would start by removing your least flattering colours so you have less to work with. Remove everything that doesn’t fit. Then pick out 3-5 items you love and 1.Try to build outfits with them putting anything you pair with them aside 2. Try to find other items in your wardrobe that match the qualities of the items you love - same colour or same shape.

Its no good buying new until you make your existing wardrobe work harder for you.
