Can you tell me please how it works?
Do you have to give your bank details? I’ve heard that money from things you sell goes into a Vinted account which you can then use to buy things. But, as I have far too many clothes, many unworn, I don’t want to be tempted to buy, just need to sell. So then you have to give bank details?

You set up a vinted account. When the sale has gone through the money transfers into your vinted account. You can then make a transfer to your bank account. It’s incredibly easy to use. I’m not techy and I find it easy.

The vinted account can be used if you buy from vinted. It’s very tempting! I tend to wait til my vinted balance is up to say £40 and then I transfer to my bank, no reason, it’s just easier and feels like a chunk!

Selling on vinted is very easy and addictive. Very straightforward. I’ve made about £400 this year selling my unwanted stuff and outgrown kids clothes.

When selling clothes it works like this:

You have 4 days to post the clothes (via couriers or drop box). You can specify in your account settings what methods you are wiling to participate with - I do drop box and the courier associated with my local shop.

Once posted, you will get a notification that the buyer has received it. They can then click they are happy with it (which means money is released instantly) OR they can hang about and do nothing. In which case the money is released 48 hours after they received it. Vinted take the stance that if they don't report any issues in 48 hours then all is well!

The money sits in your Vinted account and you request to have it put in your bank account. I've not bothered doing this yet as I want all the money to build up then have a nice Christmas "bonus".

P.S - I HIGHLY recommend putting items on at a bit more than you actually want as everyone wants to barter with you. So ends up they think they get a bargain but actually I get the price I wanted anyways.

Yep, you link you bank to your account and then withdraw. I think it says it can take up to five days to hit you account but I've always had it in my bank within a couple of hours. I've made over a grand this year.

My tips:

List the right clothes in the right season eg now it's autumn / winter people aren't looking for sundresses in general right now

List on a Friday night / Saturday morning so you are near the top for people looking at the weekend.

Make the effort to take decent photos, and include a picture of the brand / size label

Agree with @RunningUpThatBuilding buyers love to think they are getting a bargain, but be realistic, dont forget the buyer has to pay buyer protection and postage.

If you are selling a lot get a big pack of posting bags from Amazon

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/09/2023 12:44

You can reuse parcel bags. Or turn a strong carrier bag inside out.

I do buy large quantities of parcel bags on Amazon.

Make sure you have selected the right size parcel when you list your item. Small is up to 500g so you can do a light jumper or a couple of light tops.

It’s so much fun!

Also I’m pretty sure when you start of the algorithms are in your favour. I sold more quickly when I started out than I do now.

I love buying and selling on Vinted. My recommendations are:

Put clumps of items up at once. This has two benefits - one, people can buy a bundle; two, you can make fewer trips to the post

Add your items Friday lunchtime. I find a lot of people buy on Friday evening

If you put a lot of decent stuff up at the same time it is worth paying for the 7 days wardrobe boost

As above, list for slightly higher than you'd take so that people can bargain you down

Be strategic about price drops. If loads of people have favourited one of your items, all of those people will be notified when you drop the price

Pack things nicely. I save tissue paper from shop purchases and I always pack in brown paper so it can be recycled

Thank you, that’s all very helpful.

You can withdraw the balance from selling into your bank account, if you want. Obviously you do have to input your bank details to get the withdrawal

Just another question.
Looked at the website, bit confused about shipping methods. Can I ship via Royal Mail. I live rurally & having looked none of the methods like Evrie, Yodel, InPost ( which I’d never heard of)have a drop off point within fifty miles of me. The nearest village has a post office though.

You can post by Royal Mail but you have to pay for postage. Then receive it back once everything is okay.
If you only have Royal Mail turn the rest off in settings.

InPost is one of those things you don't notice until you look it up!

If a buyer opts for InPost then you print off the label, drop it off at an InPost locker (simply scan the code at the little machine and select the size of locker you need and a door automatically opens for you). A courier is then alerted to go pick up your parcel from that locker.

No use to you though if you have none nearby!
