Teen trainers with dresses

So my teenager has a party and she has a cute dress which she wants to wear with trainers. Fine- it's their fashion. But she has a pair of Nike air force ones but I'd like her to wear something a bit cooler/nicer rather than a running looking trainer. Any suggestions? I believe New balance is very 'cool'. Any thing you fashionistas can suggest?

I work with teenagers and have never seen any of them in new balance trainers. New balance trainers are very “mum” trainers and not remotely “cool” if you’re a teen.

I live near a really big 6th form in London & the teens defo wear NB.

Actually, now you say that we have sixth formers who wear NB, but year 10s and below it’s Nike or nothing at the minute. Mostly dunks and jordans. They wear trainers to school on PE days and it’s a sea of Nike trainers. It’s like no other brand exists in year 9 and 10.

My 12 year old asked for a pair of new balance 503(?) the other day and I got so confused as they are the shoes my dad used to wear! Apparently they are properly coming into fashion and this has been confirmed to me by the young hip 18/20 year olds at my work! I honestly wish my dad was still alive to see his footwear choice become cool, he would be so chuffed!

The NB 503/dad trainer has been a thing for ages

BoohooWoohoo · 26/09/2023 21:14

NB is for people 30+

She might fancy another AF1 if you're offering to buy her a new pair?

BookHereNoFee · 26/09/2023 21:20

Honestly depends where you are in the country.
Round here New balance 327s definitely mum trainers but teens like the 550's 530's.

On running/cloud are the big trainers currently being worn but not so much with dresses.

16 year old dd and friends seem to either wear converse high tops or crocs/croc sliders with white Nike socks and their dresses.

I'm 64 and I think the AF1s look far nicer than New Balance!

"but I'd like her to wear something a bit cooler/nicer rather than a running looking trainer. "

But you are not her so why are you posting?

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 26/09/2023 21:43

I find it a bit odd that you would even express an opinion about which shoes your teenager should wear to a party.

What? Seriously? 😆

Converse with dresses is good

tryingsomethingnew · 26/09/2023 22:21

Sorry- don't over think it. Just asking for opinions on trainers. She will absolutely wear what she likes and what she wants. Just thought it would be nice to get some new trainers and was asking for your fashionable advice.

Adidas superstars are popular here. Air force ones are def on the wane. It's more the younger teens who wear them.

Quitelikeacatslife · 26/09/2023 22:29

My DD (18) loves the coloured ones, they are super cool
I'm considering these for her birthday

I honestly have no idea what's on trend with teens, but I remember trainers had to be battered when I was a teen a hundred years ago

I'm pretty sure the obsession with "box white" trainers with a dress is a mummy thing.

Why are you asking here rather than asking your daughter what she'd like?

I love reading trainers threads because they're safe as I'll never want to buy anything but every single one goes the same way.

Trainer A is really cool.

Trainer A is a mum's trainer

Nobody under 30 wears trainer A

Trainer A used to be cool but trainer B is cool now.

My teen wears trainer A

And on and on.
