Gym top that covers mum-tum - help!

Have been searching high and low for a gym / exercise top that covers up my big mum-tum so I feel confident enough to go back to the gym - I can’t find anything that fits the bill at all, everything seems to either cling tightly at the front or is baggy and cropped (the worst combination!).

Help!

Buy a men's workout tank top or t-shirt?

DustyLee123 · 25/09/2023 08:39

I’ve got a vest from Next that goes down over my bum.

BBno4 · 25/09/2023 08:41

I'm pregnant and hiding it at the gym using Primark t-shirts in size L. I'm normally a size S.

They don't look ott big and drop with a pair of leggings.

Callmesleepy · 25/09/2023 08:44

You're going about it the wrong way - you need high waisted leggings or shorts to suck it all in. The holy grail is Lulu lemon but fabletics is a lot cheaper and similar (just don't forget to cancel the subscription!).

Porridgeislife · 25/09/2023 08:45

Not a budget option but Lululemon Sculpt vests are really good for tummies. Vinted usually has some.

M&S and Next are both a good shout for looser t- shirts. I've got a nice sweaty Betty one but it was a gift as they're £££

Gymshark tee is what I wear

baggy T Shirt? I hate being wrapped up head to toe in Lycra like a sausage whatever my figure is doing. If you need tummy support to make exercising more comfortable then high waisted thick waist band leggings are great.

Allofthisisasimulation · 25/09/2023 09:57

High(er) waisted bottoms might help. I also found loose long tops in Tesco in the past. You can also get men's sport t-shirts (that moisture wicking material) from next in nice lilac, turquoise etc (if you prefer that to black/grey) in Next.

Sweaty Betty Power are good for holding in the stomach, as are quite a few other brands these days. I also have a good pair from TU at Sainsbury's. That gives you more scope for choosing a top.

I understand as I need sleeves to come to near the elbow or mid upper arm and most are very, very short.

MrsFionaCharming · 25/09/2023 11:10

I couldn’t find a clean gym too the other day, so wore a maternity fabletics one (I’m now a year post partum). It was actually far more flattering than my normal tops. Fitted nicely over the boobs, but loose over the stomach, whilst not being really baggy and obviously maternity.

I've actually got this on my maybe list to try - although I wish it had sleeves as I don't want my arms on display as yet (and it's getting colder). Need to try and find one on Vinted as they are all sold out on LL website😓

Have a look at Wellfit - they do long tops and some of them have a double layer which is designed to tuck in underneath

Oh wow, these appear to be exactly the style I have been looking for, thank you so much! Am wincing at the price a bit, but it's hopefully a good investment as I'll actually wear it (and resell the 4 tops I have from Vinted and not worn!).

Oh, that is good! Although another one that's out of stock in all colours/my size (L or XL I would think), gah!

I should have said, I've already got 2 pairs of Sweaty Betty leggings to wear on the bottom half - hopefully I can still squeeze my chonky arse into them after 1 year away from the gym!

Under armour tops work well for me - also stomach issues. I have a lot of these.

Yes! Another vote here for these tops (though I go for the round neck version). They are slim fitting but not clingy, and the fabric is super light and airy. They never ride up or flap about!

But as someone else said, pair it with some high waisted leggings. Sweaty betty are expensive but well worth it.

Oddearslongnose · 25/09/2023 14:11

I just wear H&M long black t shirts, in fact they’re more like mini dress length but they’re cheap enough to have a small stack on rotation.

Oddearslongnose · 25/09/2023 14:15

Something like this which is called a t shirt dress but once it’s gone over my boobs it’s not very dress like

I wear sweaty betty bottoms and then longline gym tops/vests, generally more available from the generic shops - e.g. Matalan souluxe, next, M&S goodmove

I have no clue why the bigger brands do not sell them too as there must be a market for them! Previously did ok with some new balance tops but better to try them in person in a shop
