Foundation help needed!

It’s time for a new foundation and I really have no idea which one to go for next. I’d like one with full coverage. I have combination skin (oily forehead) and I’m quite pale-skinned with pink tones and mid-30s so a few lines are creeping in by my eyes. My go-to used to be Estée Lauder double wear but it began to look quite heavy on my face and settle into creases the last time I had it.
I’m going into the nearest city centre tomorrow where there are LOTS of beauty counters. Can you recommend anything?

I'm 36 and still wear double wear. I've tried others but always end up going back to double wear. Have you tried applying with a damp beauty blender, it really gives a lovely finish.

Watchingthegp · 24/09/2023 20:24

Watching as in same situation, god the amount of failed bottles and tubes of foundation I possess could make me cry 😞

smallshinybutton · 24/09/2023 20:25

Double wear light.

Do you like the matt look? Would you like to try something glowy? The NARS counter would be a good place to go if you wanted to try some different formulas. Or a no.7 if you wanted something more affordable to try out

Whatshallichangemyusernameto · 24/09/2023 20:38

Thank you! Sorry I should have said - I’d like a fairly matte look to cover the oil but not super-matte if that makes sense? Also, budget can stretch up to around £40 (although less would be wonderful).

I would try Nars Sheer Glow. Which is neither sheer or particularly glowy - it is the glow that is sheer.

Try Armani silk foundation

GlobetrottingPercy · 24/09/2023 20:45

Also mid 30’s and a reluctant convert from double wear. I had worn it since my late teens but it started to oxidise by the end of the day and also look very heavy! I now use Nars Radiant Longwear and have no complaints - it’s also available from boots so is often included in their discounts on premium brands. I also have Nars Sheer Glow and that works really well too, it’s buildable so you can put more or less on.

Last time I went to flannels they gave me a sample of Armani silk foundation and it felt lovely, it was such a nice product. Alas it didn’t give me the coverage I was looking for but it was a real shame as it was so silky (as you would expect!) and felt really nice on!

Tynm · 25/09/2023 06:48

We're all in our 30s clinging to our double wear 😂 I thought it was just me!
I agree with a previous poster, I was using it with a small beauty blender and usually just dry.

I switched to the Coco marshmallow sponge and used them damp - total game changer. It feels completely different on my skin now

DanceMumTaxi · 25/09/2023 06:51

Nars sheer glow sounds like it’d be a good match. It’s not particularly glowy and definitely not sheer. They’ve got a really good cover range. Test the shade Mont Blanc if you’re pale with pink undertones.

Armani Silk and Chanel Ultra Le Teint are the best foundations on the market. They are fab.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 25/09/2023 07:38

You might also be surprised at what's available at the mid-low price range. I found Revlon colorstay to be great as skin ages.

You might also want to reconsider your primer.

hipposinacircle · 25/09/2023 07:39

Yes I agree with Armani silk. I only wear that or double wear. It gives a lovely finish.

paisley256 · 25/09/2023 07:43

I love the Estee Lauder hydro futurist foundation, it doesn't seem as heavy as double wear and has excellent coverage too.

TheChosenTwo · 25/09/2023 07:51

I really like the Charlotte tilbury beautiful skin foundation, it gives such a natural look but with good coverage if you build it up. I use a tiny quarter of a pump and feel it gives enough for me. I have quite oily skin and should really powder but I don’t like to, by the end of the day I do look shiny but it’s a great foundation. I used to love ELDW too but it’s way too heavy for me even with a tiny amount, and the light version didn’t do much for me.

amidsummernightsdream · 25/09/2023 08:02

Another armani, I switched last year from 10 years of bobbi brown and haven’t looked back

DixieLandReject · 25/09/2023 12:42

I'm intrigued re Armani now!

Anjelika · 25/09/2023 12:55

I am late '50's and gone back to EL Double Wear after a few years (and many £££ wasted) trying out other foundations. The game changer for me, after years of applying with a foundation brush, was applying with my fingers. Made a world of difference. Might try the damp beauty sponge but doesn't that water it down and give less coverage?

DixieLandReject · 25/09/2023 13:01

No it doesn't water it down, I thought that before I tried it! Rinse under the tap, squeeze out the excess water then apply as normal. The finish is amazing. I use a small damp one for concealer as well.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/09/2023 13:10

If you love DW then I think you'll be disappointed with anything else ,I know I am,nothing compares to it! I have been mixing some primer with it lately which looks nice. Have you tried the Estée Lauder Futurist foundation?

Whatshallichangemyusernameto · 26/09/2023 06:43

Thank you everybody for your suggestions - they were so helpful! I went with Estée Lauder hydro futurist in the end, although if I don’t get on with this one I’ll look towards some of the other suggestions (once I’ve used it all up, of course - I wish I had money to burn on foundation!).

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the hydra futurist it's lovely stuff!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/09/2023 12:45

It really is!

workshy46 · 26/09/2023 12:51

Rare Beauty Skin Tiny or Westman Atelier the stick foundation. I have tried literally everyone on the market at every price point and think these are the two best, For dry skin Ilia Skin tint but my skin is too oily for it but I do love it
