Upper lip wax

Does anyone wax their upper lip?
I have mildish pcos and as a result I have some upper lip hair.
I've spent my entire life being so self conscious of it, so much so that I will avoid situations.
In all honesty it's not as bad as I o ow some other poor women suffer, but there's two clusters of hair growth which really bother me.
I've bleach the hair the past couple of years which seems to be a good resolution, however, my son point out my blonde mustach the other day and the self awareness has come back!! (He's only 6!).
Anyone one here who waxes there upper lip? How does it grow back? Would you recommend?

I use immac facial cream, waxing makes it red and sore.

theduchessofspork · 24/09/2023 11:22

I think threading is better than waxing - it doesn’t take all the hair off (you keep the micro fluff you have everywhere on your face), whereas with waxing you have a bald patch. I also think threading pulls at the skin less.

Also have PCOS so sympathies

Thank you! How doe you manage the re growth?
Does it just grow back at different rates or are you left with a stubble etc?

I have my upper lip waxed. Very quick, relatively painless and last about 6 weeks. Re growth is very soft and fine. I held off for years thinking it would grow back thicker and spiky but I've not had any issues at all.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/09/2023 11:29

I used to get mine sugared at a local salon as waxing was too harsh. But now we've moved house there aren't any salons nearby.

I've started using waxing strips that you warm up in your hands. If you wipe over with baby oil afterwards it stops the redness and stops it getting dry. I use bio oil instead and it works well on my dry skin.

It doesn't grown back spiky or stubbly.

Yeah I've been the same but I've started waxing other areas and I'm just so happy with the results compared to shaving etc... but doing it on the face makes me worry 🙈

I found threading really good on upper lip but in lockdown just started using a dermablade then a razor. Its all pretty much the same re results and regrowth. I think it might depend on the colour and texture of the hair how it grows back but mine hasn't been an issue. I cried the first time my face was threaded, after years of disproportionate worry about it. It felt so smooth and I was so happy with it. Just try it and see.

TiredMamOfTwo · 24/09/2023 12:20

I used too but I demerblade it now which is much better and painless. Grin

I waxed my upper lip for the first time yesterday morning! It did go red and it took an hour or two to go down. Then towards the evening yesterday I noticed the faintest kind of bubbles which are small but still there now. You can't see them unless, like me, you're peering very closely in the mirror. I'm not experience with waxing, I had my legs and bikini done once and swore never again 'cos it was awful. I guess I do have sensitive skin. But waxing my lip appealed more than bleaching which doesn't make much sense to me, I don't want dark roots, rather just whip it off.

Wakemeup17 · 24/09/2023 12:39

I used to wax it for years but then got bored and moved to shaving. Shaving is much better, quicker and cheaper. Works for me.

OverTheCountryClub · 24/09/2023 12:55

Get a face shaver. About £10 off amazon or I think I spotted a couple in Boots the other day. Does the job brilliantly, is cheaper than salon treatments and painless. I've tried waxing (painful and irritates my skin for days afterwards), threading (cannot STAND how this feels, don't know why but it makes me want to scream!), plucking (OK but difficult if there are quite a few hairs and very painful just below the nose) and now shaving which I started a couple of years ago and wish I'd done earlier. You can also use it on your eyebrows and chin hairs so multi-purpose!

For threading it just grows back slowly - no stubble because you pull out the root - and you have it redone before it gets annoying. I do about once every 4 weeks.

Veet facial wax strips.
I have to put a very, very thin smear of talc on first so the wax grips to the hair not the skin. You can end up with painful white pimples if you don’t use the talc for some reason.
They also work best if you warm the strips to separate them but them lie them (sticky side up) on the cold of the sink porcelain so they get hard again before smoothing onto the area, they don’t grip right if the wax is too hot.
I’ve been doing mine for years, weekly! it’s a PITA.

troppibambini6 · 24/09/2023 13:17

I get my goatee done every six weeks. So basically top lip, chin and under my chin.
I look like I've been in a fire for about an hour after but then it settles down and it's fine.
The hairs are fine growing back not at all stubbly. Although I have a few wirey ones that's stay the same haven't got any worse.
Reading that back I sound lovely Grin

flawless29 · 24/09/2023 13:22

Every now and then, I get my top lip threaded during my fortnightly eyebrow threading appointment. It's not like I have noticeable hair on my top lip or anything; it's all pretty standard. But let me tell you, my makeup just glides on so much better when the area is smooth.
I've tried waxing before, but I much prefer threading. It just agrees with my skin more.

midnightblue12 · 24/09/2023 17:47

Ok so I just got some nair facial wax strips and but the bullet and did it. I only waxed the two cluster areas and omg I'm so happy! It went red for a very short time, didn't hurt that much, but feels amazing! I cannot believe the instant Telford I feel from being so self conscious!
I guess I will just have to wait and see how it grows back 🙈

I waxed for years, nay decades, before I bought a JML face shaver and I haven't looked back. Thirty seconds every night before I do my face creams. I recommend it to everyone Smile

candywoo · 24/09/2023 18:33

I've waxed my top lip for years always been fine. A bit red and sore for a couple of hours after but then it goes.

Make sure you get the facial ones as I was in a rush yesterday and couldn't find them and just got the bikini area ones and I've come out in white spots there now. Will never do that again lol

Hedjwitch · 24/09/2023 18:35

Get mine waxed when i get my eyebrows done.
In between times I pluck or dermaplane

Querty123456 · 24/09/2023 18:37

I bleached it for years kidding myself it looked fine. About 10 years ago I started getting it waxed, why I didn’t do it 20 years ago I’ll never know. I’ve got far less hair there then I used to have and it’s done in seconds.

dearanon · 24/09/2023 18:48

I wax and have done for years. I do it every 3 weeks

DeadbeatYoda · 24/09/2023 18:51

I do my own here and there. Takes seconds. There are lots of small strips available. I just do it on a Sunday evening when I'm not going anywhere every now and then ( a few times a year). It's no bother.

Passthecake30 · 24/09/2023 21:03

I use a twisty spring thing, works like waxing. Doesn’t get it all out but an huge improvement.

NonMiDispiace · 24/09/2023 21:08

I’ve had mine waxed but now I use my epilator. It takes a few seconds and isn’t painful at all.
