Saint and Sofia change in quality?

Saint & Sofia was a staple of mine since Covid and could rely on all kinds of items, from trousers to dresses.
I’ve just ordered a bunch again and I’m returning it all despite actually liking the styles and fits. The quality is shocking - a jacket for £150 is unlined, the skirt is light cotton and totally unlined, for £129!! You’d have to wear an old fashioned “slip” under it.
Is this a recent thing? There’s no change in country of origin (Bulgaria). I’m gutted as I always loved it.

Off the top of my head I can think of one cotton skirt in my entire life time that's been lined. That was from Hobbs about 25 years ago (loved that skirt).

I used to have gazillions of cotton skirts from cotton skirt maker extraordinaire Laura Ashley They never lined cotton skirts. Tailored wool and sometimes silk skirts tend to have linings but linings in cotton skirts aren't usually a thing are they? I'm not familiar with Saint and Sophia.

I always wear slips under unlined skirts and dresses.

You’re quite right. I meant to say the skirt was transparent rather than unlined! It was a loose cotton knit and an awkward cut for a slip.
The jacket is a shocker though - literally flaps and panels on sight.
i have never bought from Laura Ashley so I will take a look. Hobbs tends to be my work or formal occasion “go to” and they tend to line all jackets.
I think I’m turning into my mother!

Laura Ashley ceased trading about a decade ago. I just mentioned them because they used to be very good at cotton skirts and even they didn't line them, but you've clarified that. You can find stuff on eBay although Batsheva and Joannie are making dresses using Laura Ashley heritage prints.

Thanks @NatashaDancing - I knew I hadn’t see lA around!
Off shopping the traditional way today so I can see the fabrics and quality before I buy.

I've always found their stuff under par, all styling but no substance. Cheap fabrics that are photographed and marketed well imo.

I found S&S very hit and miss quality-wise. I did keep a dress of theirs recently and like it, but returned everything else!

JudyBlumesBlubber · 24/09/2023 10:27

I see I am not alone.

On the returns form, quality isn’t an option for the reason of return so I guess they’ll never know either.

I so miss Laura Ashley so will leap to their defence - I have two maxi skirts from there, one lined in cotton and one in polyester, that really need to go but can’t be replaced. Recently had to ditch a shorter cotton-lined linen skirt from them that went into holes.

Following for recommendations!

JudyBlumesBlubber · 24/09/2023 15:28

@LastHives i also bought stuff from Saint and Sofia during Covid and found the quality good - one of the trousers I’m still wearing. But efforts to replace those items have not worked out at all. The quality isn’t there now.

It's a rip off. I can't believe they are flogging their clothes for £100+ their website talks about sustainability and then you look at the fabric composition: Material: 60% Polyester 35% Viscose 5% Elastane.
Hmm

JudyBlumesBlubber · 24/09/2023 23:10

Agree @LondonLovie
