I know...slippers! 🙄
So, this is my problem (so trivial really, but). We had some building work done a couple of years ago which meant new kitchen flooring and new carpets in living room. Our old kitchen flooring was ceramic tiles, new floor is Karndean. Old carpet was wool, new carpet is some manmade fibre.
Since having the floors done, I cannot wear anything on my feet (socks, slippers, shoes) without incurring the most ridiculously loud (and painful) static shocks from everything I then touch whilst wearing them. I'm sparky stuff at the best of times, my car door likes to zap me every time I get out the car as well. It's not so bad in the warmer months, but already I'm sitting here with my feet freezing cold. Last winter I wore my snuggly slippers, but I'm up and down like a yo-yo and taking them off every time I wanted to walk quckly became tiresome!
The biggest issue I have is that I am a lifelong T1 diabetic, and do have some background neuropathy in my feet as a result. My diabetic practitioner would have an attack of the vapours if she knew I was wandering around barefoot and earlier this year, the inevitable happened. I obviously trod on something, as I had a lump of metal embedded in my toe, but as it was a toe with reduced sensation, I didn't know about it until it turned violent. 9 weeks of 3 x weekly dressing changes, compression socks, antibiotics and goodness what else and it eventually healed, but suffice to say it's made me a bit twitchy about going commando a la trotters.
Question is, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that I could try - either to eliminate these unpleasant static shocks, so that I can once again wear my beloved sheepskin slippers, or for a slipper that has a sole that won't try and electrocute me with every step! I've tried most different types of sole that I can think of, but to no avail.
Thank you for any ideas.
