Unknowingly been using Retinol - help!!

So I was gifted a face cream about two weeks ago which I've been using twice daily. I was told it was a moisturizer amazing for the skin blah blah blah..

I've now noticed on the ingredients it contains Retinol. I'm now worried and had avoided Retinol as understand you have to wean your skin to it / use it very specifically / wear spf.. I'm clueless so have avoided

Can someone give the the lowdown on how to use Retinol products? The finer skin around my eyes has gone all dry and I'm afraid I've ruined it.

Keep away from your eyes and wear sunscreen daily.

Get a moisturising eye cream.

I found I could use retinol without weaning it on my skin , but it didn't do much. I'm now on tret but haven't been using it long enough to see if it works.

I didn’t wean my skin into retinol but I always use SPf (the most important skincare!) and didn’t use round my eyes.

If it has irritated your skin just stop using it and use something very basic for a few weeks, your skin will recover.

Use it as a night cream. Some people are more sensitive to retinol, which is why it’s advised to start on a smaller percentage, but it isn’t a given.

What’s the product?

I wouldn’t worry about having a reaction. It’s probably a very low concentration if it’s just an ingredient in a moisturiser.

Scruffington · 19/09/2023 09:49

Oh sorry, just noticed you're experiencing dry skin around your eyes. Just use the product at night and avoid using the moisturiser on the eye area. Use a nice bland cream there instead like LRP Cicaplast or Aveeno and and that sound fix the dryness.

bryceQ · 19/09/2023 16:08

It's probably low dosage to be honest make sure you use Spf and not around your eyes.

MariePaperRoses · 19/09/2023 16:15

How far down the list of ingredients is it listed and at what concentration?

You can carry on using it and avoid areas which it's made dry or add extra moisturiser to the dry areas.

You haven't ruined your skin as creams only penetrate the top layer which naturally sheds anyway.

It might include so little retinol in it that's it'll make no difference anyway. There are different types of differing strengths

No idea unless you divulge the brand
