Nail glow that isn't polish?

Jaguarina · 15/09/2023 06:52

Is there something I can paint in my nails that will give them a healthy pink glow but that I won't have to remove with nail polish remover/ that won't chip? I don't want the faff of removing polish but I want shiny nails. Not sure if this exists!

Dior Nail Glow.

SouthernFashionista · 15/09/2023 06:55

Essie do a cheaper version of the Dior one

Jaguarina · 15/09/2023 07:16

And it doesn't need taking off?

A buffer and buffing cream

coodawoodashooda · 15/09/2023 07:28

Thank you. I wondered this too

Roselilly36 · 15/09/2023 07:29

A nail buffer is what you need, it will smooth the surface of your nails with the rougher side and make them shiny with the smooth grey side.

Loopytiles · 15/09/2023 07:30

Buffer and nail oil, or hand cream!

Housewife2010 · 15/09/2023 07:31

I was thinking of a traditional chamois buffer used with buffing cream. It won't exfoliate the nails but leaves them with a nice glow.

Jaguarina · 15/09/2023 07:52

Ooh I've never heard of nail buffer cream! Thanks

Leighton Denny used to do something called Rejuvenate (I think) which you used once a week, and then used just the buffer every day.

EquallyDetermined · 15/09/2023 08:00

Be careful with buffing, mine go dull again after a day and if I re-buff too often they get very thin and weak. I use the Essie Hard to Resist, it does need remover but comes off very easily and can remove the lot in about a minute.

Bearpawk · 15/09/2023 08:02

Dior nail glow and similar are great but they do peel/ chip eventually. They're just a blue pink tinged lacquer really.
A natural approach would be lightly buff and oil

Mamette · 15/09/2023 08:05

Dior nail glow does need taking off, same as any nail varnish. It’s extremely forgiving though, and any worn areas, small chips etc are not noticeable.

I use it and I do it once a week. It takes 5 mins to take off and reapply and it dries very quickly.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 15/09/2023 08:07

Be careful with buffing your nails, each time you buff them you are gradually thinning them and over time they will get weaker.

Dior Abricot nail cream. Strengthens and gives nails a healthy glow.

Not with the traditional chamois buffers though.

BeretRaspberry · 15/09/2023 08:32

If used with a buffing cream they will.

Buffing literally removes layers of your nails.

I use Dior Nail Glow and love it. It lasts and is easy to remove. @Jaguarina is there a particular reason you don’t want to have to remove it?

Jaguarina · 15/09/2023 09:42

I'm just a lazy bint and I don't like it when it chips and shrinks. So there's no good reason

I use the Essie one, the purple is better than pink IMO. It does chip and needs removing like polish but the chips don't show in the same way. TBH I just put another coat on top and only remove it every few weeks when my cuticles need attention.

BeretRaspberry · 15/09/2023 09:55

Lol, fair enough. Well the Dior glow lasts well and doesn’t really chip, or if it does it’s hardly noticeable. It also removes easily with having hardly any colour to it and it dries really quickly too.

Otherwise you could just use regular nail/cuticle oil during the day if you’re able - that helps with appearance. I decant mine into a water brush pen so there’s less mess.

Buffing with a chamois buffer DOES NOT remove layers on your nails. I buff my handbags with Collonil - it doesn't wear them away, just polishes them. With chamois leather you can buff nails regularly and it is actually very good for nails, as you accelerate the blood circulation and bring more oxygen and more nutriment to the bed of the nail.

Cheeesus · 15/09/2023 11:28

You can buy oil already in a brush thing

Any sort of buffing wears the nails, that's how it works. It's fine if you don't overdo it though.
