Nice but inexpensive bars of soap

I love really nice soap with a fairly strong citrus or mint smell. I used to alternate between buying handmade soaps and Waitrose Essential Grapefruit soap which was about £1.50 for 4 bars. I think Waitrose have discontinued it because I’ve tried a few stores over the last 6-8 months and not found it. Can anyone recommend a nice but inexpensive bar of soap that I can buy when I’m saving money for handmade ones.

I loved the Waitrose Grapefruit one as well and bought the camomile one instead. Not as nice. I tried the Tesco citrus one at a similar price. Not nice either.

I will have to go back to L'Occitane Verbena. But will watch this thread for recommendations. No idea why WR stopped producing the Grapefruit one it was brilliant.

Or if you aren't fussed about scent then Johnson's honey baby soap is cheap and lovely

Try Friendly soaps, they do lovely inexpensive soaps using natural ingredients (vegan and no palm oil) using essential oils. I love the tea tree and turmeric soap, fresh smelling and really healthy for skin.
Their orange and grapefruit, and rose geranium soaps are lovely too.

cidal soap is v lemony and cheap. Haven’t seen it in boots for a while though…

I like Dove Shea butter for everyday soap. Waiting for the purists to come on here and say "but Dove isn't soap". Well to me it behaves like soap and looks like soap so that's fine. I also have a bar of Neste Dante on the go all the time but it's quite scented and drying. I can use Dove on my face and other sensitive areas without problems.

I used to like this too. I bought it from Home Bargains, really cheap but not seen it for a while.

OP, you could try TKMaxx and Home Sense if you happen to be near one as you often find some random bargains in there

Thanks for the recommendations. I’ve ordered some of the Friendly soap which was more expensive than I was hoping but cheaper than I normally spend on nice soap so might end up balancing out cost wise.

I really loved the waitrose grapefruit soap so I’ll keep looking back in case some one can recommend something equally good at a similar price. I need the scent to help me wake up in the morning.

@RoseHarper Yes, I came across the Dettol soap during lockdown. They sell it in Superdrug! It's lovely, all lemony and fresh. Glad someone else likes it.

I really like the old school Wright's Coal Tar Soap.. ooo let's smell like Coal Tar... why not

But I don't think that's really a recommendation most would want, but I like it 😁

Morrisons do a nice fresh lemon soap in a four bar multipack, which I like.

It’s a ‘cleansing bar’, with lots of moisturiser in it, not made of soap at all.

You can get lovely fancy soaps cheaply at TK Maxx, there will be some lemon/citrus ones.

I love talking about soap!

I've recently bought some soap from a company called The Natural Spa, really like it, cold process handmade proper soap. Lots of scents to choose from and the best bit is that they always have a clearance section on their website with soap offcuts and misshapes/seconds.

I agree friendly soap is lovely too and it's always work looking in TKMaxx. I got some lovely peppermint soap from their clearance section the brand was Freshwater Farm but it looks like it's not sold in the UK (Australian brand).

I bought some Dettol soap this morning and yes it does smell fresh and lemony. Will look again at ordering Friendly soaps or Kew. Both look lovely. The pack of 4 Friendly soaps especially. I also like threads about soap!!

I buy bulk offcuts of fancy handmade soap off sellers on etsy. You don't get to pick the scents but a £20 box does me for a long time and I like the variety.

TK Maxx. All triple milled and long lasting big bars. I sometimes cut in half. Loads of different types including citrus.
