Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream

Hi MN beauty experts, would appreciate some help on this! Is there a product which actually works to reduce or improve the appearance of wrinkles? Or are all creams just BS with lower or higher price tags? I've been using a basic eye cream which hasn't made any difference to around my eyes so wondering if need to get something more expensive. I've also got a few fairly deep long lines across my forehead which I'm noticing more these days. I am thinking do I just get a fringe cut in to hide them totally, or is there something not too harsh I could try? I've seen mention of retinol and tret but have no idea where to begin with anti-ageing products. Just turned 40 and have quite combination skin prone to sebaceous filaments and in parts sensitive/dry and in others oily, so don't want anything too rich or heavy. Thank you if anybody can guide me where best to start!

Have you tried something like skin+me? It's a great starting point if you're unsure of what to use, you fill a form in + send photos of your face and they'll actually prescribe skincare suitable for what you want to change, then you just use it every day and they send it on subscription.

The ordinary is really good for regime building (in store or online!) if you want effective simple skincare, the pricing is good too.

Start with Tretinoin if you want a cream. It might even help with sebaceous filaments.

Try one of those skincare subscription places or buy a tube (more cheaply).

Thank you @cruffinsmuffin I had not heard of that, sounds ideal so will look into it!

@zinfi thank you, I def need to do more research about tret, just wasn't sure if the hype was to be believed.

The only anti wrinkle cream that's proven would be Tretinoin or Retinol. And then just keeping skin hydrated and protected from the sun.

I really love Dermatica - you get a tube every 4/5 weeks. I've used it for 4 years.

It is brilliant stuff, but harsh when you first start using it. You might want to start on an over the counter retinol for a while first - or you could dive into tretinoin.
Just be prepared for some irritation for a few weeks while your skin acclimatises, and make sure you use sunscreen everyday.

Yes there are ones that reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Like high tech polyfilla.
Will post some names in the morning

Second starting with skin + me. It’s a dermatologist subscription service. They will start you on a low dose (lower than dermatica) tretinoin and other actives depending on your skin concerns. You’ll be sent a tube every month and the tretinoin dose will be slowly increased. Then I’d recommend a good cleanser (I like The Inkey List tube balm cleanser or Byoma milky oil cleanser, also try Cerave) and an spf in the morning (lots of good inexpensive options now).

After that, anything else is really just nice to have and I wouldn’t spend too much money - especially not on an expensive moisturiser, it does the same thing as a cheap moisturiser. Some people like acids (AHA/BHA/PHA) or vitamin C in the morning but I wouldn’t add too much all at once.

Thank you so much for your advice and links everyone, just waiting for payday then I will likely try the subscription mentioned. @BeverlyBrook would be very interested to hear about the magic polyfilla if such a thing exists!

Filorga time filler.
I got it in an m&s beauty advent calendar. I would never have bought it. But it works!

LadyLapsang · 17/09/2023 22:19

Do you use sunblock everyday? If not, start there.

papasmurfdontpreach · 18/09/2023 11:18

Thank you!

I'm 39 and have combination skin. Here's what I use and would recommend

PM
Bioderma micellar water
Cerave hydrating cleanser

  • treatment, either an exfoliating acid or retinol

Exfoliating acids: Sali Hughes Placid or FaceTheory Saliatica or The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5%
Retinol: Indeed Labs retinol reface

AM
Cerave hydrating cleanser
La Roche Posay toleriane sensitive cream
Hero superlight sunscreen (if you're not fussed about having a chemical sunscreen Beauty of Joseon Rice + Probiotic spf is a good shout)

Have also been using Q&A vitamin ace warming gel mask a few nights a week, and really like that (although wouldn't use this on sensitive areas).
