I have a couple of dresses that I purchased recently, which I love ( I know many people think differently)

This one:
It is super light, and I feel very comfortable in it, considering a larger bust.
I love longer sleeves, and it looks great with a cardigan and button detail:

This one:
It's very light and super comfortable; it has lovely quality material and pockets. I want to wear it for longer than a couple of weeks:

There was a week of nice weather, and I was wearing them with light gold sandals.
Now, when it gets colder, I am unsure what to choose.
Flats/ballerinas feel boring and old- or is it only me?
I tried wearing sneakers as I LOVE them on other people with long dresses (white ON Roger https://www.on-running.com/en-gb/products/the-roger-advantage-48adv/womens/all-white-shoes-48.99452), but I feel silly like my feet are enormous.
Are these sneakers just too heavy, or is it me again?
I always thought that boots are too heavy for light colors- what do you recommend?

To be honest I think its always the case with trainers- feet look bigger than they are especially with dresses.
You just need to stop thinking about it;)

They are both very summery, the first on in particular. The second one you could probably get away tights and boots, I'd probably go for brown. And those trainers you linked to would be perfect (not in black).

Thank you. I have white ones- they look pretty massive with a dress.
not sure what else would work

I think they are too summery to go with anything else really. You might need to put them away till next year.

pat76 · 16/09/2023 14:49

First one is too summery
Second one I think with a thicker cardigan and sneakers will look good
I like the dark one on their website as well

I quite like both dresses but I thought the first one was ok for now, certainly with ballet flats, possibly even with flat boots. The second dress is too summery.

I think trainers look awful with dresses unless they are old fashioned, traditional, cotton plimsoll/ sneaker type (and by "sneaker" I mean something much neater and thinner soled than in OP's link) shoes. The big, rubbery soles ones are awful. The ones in the OP's link look ugly to me and will make feet look big.

NatashaDancing · 16/09/2023 16:55

I can see why OP would want to extend the life of the dresses past summer. They're nice and will be really easy to wear.

CinemaCrazy · 16/09/2023 17:37

I think trainers will be fine, I imagine you’ll only get another couple of weeks wear out of the dresses this year.

Quitelikeacatslife · 16/09/2023 18:31

They are lovely dresses but summery colours, so boots wouldn't work , they are too lightweight for tights etc maybe tan boots or loafers at a push

Yes trainers and chunky cardi or the (dreaded) denim jacket would be ok, but very casual look (mumsnet cliche but I still like it)

You might have to put them away and look forward to them in spring when you can wear sandals again

Marlaysydney12 · 16/09/2023 18:39

I think your need plimsols or very slim white trainers. I'm a size 8 and just bought great converse like canvas shoes from Primark. They fit great, I find real converse too narrow.

Mirabai · 16/09/2023 19:26

They’re both summer dresses, you need to wear them with vans type trainers.

Mirabai · 16/09/2023 19:27

Or Superga

Exactly.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 16/09/2023 21:27

You need converse type trainers, they are smaller in the 'sole wedge' so won't look as big or clunky. You could try Tom's or Dude Shoes, they are both lightweight.

Toms are a great idea, thank you! Although not suitable for autumn weather.
I have Converse (white), and they look a bit better, but still not perfect.

I have ordered the second navy dress because I love the finish and fabric, and will try it with boots.
It's more of a maxi dress because I am not tall, so will see
