Boots too wide?

I have big feet and really struggle to get shoes and boots to fit me.
I am desperate for new winter boots. I've got these from H&M but I don't like the fact that they're really wide around my legs- like waders or Welly boots. But I think that is the style now?
I've got some that are years old that have worn out and they zip up the side and are close to my calf. Can you still buy that style or is that really old fashioned?
I don't really like these that much but as it's so difficult to get boots I don't know whether to keep them. I'm not sure if I will be able to find a style that is closer to my leg.
What do you think of them?
I'm sure they make them extra wide in the big sizes as they think that if you've got big feet you've got big legs! Or is this just the style now?

I think its just mass production. Go with average and add an inch or two to cater to the largest market. Tell the skinny legged it's the fashun and those with larger legs get to try other stores which also sell larger clothes too.(not intending to cause a riot just on my mind atm as my DSis and I were shopping for boots at the weekend. She is larger in the calf than I am. She couldn't fit into boots in schuh etc but found some in Yours, a shop for 18+)

I have stupidly small ankles and calves and always look like I'm on my way to muck out in knee high boots. As a teen I used to pad my legs with multiple pairs of hockey socks and tights do the boots were tight.....but obviously they looked shit if anyone actually looked at my legs.

I'm hoping this year to try the cowboy trend, they definitely look OK looser on the legs

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2023 01:31

Send them back, they are much too wide for you.

I'm size 8 in boots and have a few pairs that fit nicely on my calves, which are reasonably slender if I may say so Grin

My favourite boots are from Clarks, M&S and Boden.

rhiannon1967 · 12/09/2023 06:39

I was thinking that the pull on ones have to be wide or you'd never get your feet into them.
I'm guessing that if you want close to your calf then you really need a side zip.

Unfortunately I'm a size 42.5 but sometimes I can squeeze into a 42. Sometimes a 43 will do but sometimes it's too big and my feet slop up and down.

I can't fit into an M&S or clarks 8. I just got lucky with these ones. I ordered a size 9 but they are only a 42.

I also ordered a very similar pair from Other Stories in a 42 and they were far too small!
Despite Other Stories being part of the H&M group.

Stealth boast? 😂
well done for not having fat legs

rhiannon1967 · 12/09/2023 06:56

No. Not a stealth boost at all.

People don't realise how difficult it is when you aren't a standard size. My feet are generally bigger than a standard High Street 8 or 42 but too small and narrow for outsize shops.
I ordered 15 pairs of loafers last year before I finally found a pair to fit me - that included some mens penny loafers that ended up being far too wide.
And there's really no point shopping on the High Street. Often they don't stock a 9 and the 8 is out of stock. Or they bring you an '8' and its not a 42 its a 41 which in my book is a 7.

I basically live in mens trainers.

I could weep with frustration. Its just so depressing.

It's said that shoes make an outfit. But I don't really have the luxury of getting to choose ones I really like and have to 'make do' with the ones I find that actually fit me.

I have really skinny calves and can never get a Boots to Fit

rhiannon1967 · 12/09/2023 07:04

Thanks. I did try Duo boots a few years back.
And although the calf fitted OK the foot didn't. I can't exactly remember.

I tried 3 different pairs and I remember that one style the ankle was so tight it was like I was in a vice - even though the calf was OK.
I can't really remember why the other styles didn't work out. Probably that I'm in between an 8 and a 9 so the 8 was tight snd the 9 slops up and down.

I was thinking of giving them another go though as different styles will come up differently.- thank you.

I also have to wait for the refunds on my credit card for these two pairs before I can try another pair or two. It's a long, drawn out process, and meanwhile I'm panicking that the size 8s and 9s are going out of stock!

Duo boots absolutely saved me - for some reason I have an average sized body apart from my calves/ankles which are ridiculously skinny. Not great.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/09/2023 07:46

@rhiannon1967 I feel your pain! I'm also a 42.5/43, can't fit high street shoes. My legs are too wide for many boots though!

Have a look at Fly London boots - their 42 is big in boots (not in shoes) - the Mol 2 style is too narrow for my "muscular" calf muscles. It's a knee high, zip up style . Bern around for so long, it must be a design classic by now. £££ on the Fly London website, but hade a Google and you'll find them cheaper from Jones, Amazon and other suppliers.

I wear the Mes style, which had a cut away back and sits under the calf muscle, might also work for you, as it's a close fit around the ankle.

Mol 2 this is the style, but Google to find the size/colour you need.

They are not cheap, but mine are entering their 8th winter.

Also have a look at Moshulu who do some styles to a 9, but are too narrow on the leg for me.

hdbs17 · 12/09/2023 08:26

I would love to have boots that were loose on my calves! I haven't even got fat calves but for some reason, I can never find a pair that will actually do up or don't squeeze my legs!

rhiannon1967 · 12/09/2023 08:53

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads Thank you so much. I will check those options out.

I did find some size 42.5 Peter Kaiser boots on Zalando a few years back. They fit me perfectly. They are suede with a block heel. But now I'm looking at flat leather for everyday.
Sadly Zalando no longer stock that brand in a 42.5.
I've tried emailing Peter Kaiser.co.uk. they suggested emailing PeterKaiser.de who have given me a phone number for them in Germany. I don't think my German is up to the task!

Seeing as your boot options are very limited you need to see whether you will enjoy wearing them. The boots are wide and that is one of the styles that is currently fashionable so I don’t think they are ‘too wide’. . I think it depends how you want to style them ie what do you want to wear them with. Have you tried them on with other things as your pic obviously shows your summery shorts. A quick look at how similar boots are styled on different websites should help you make up your mind one way or the other. I must admit when I had a very quick look they were shown with bare legs and a mini skirt which is not something I would find warm enough for Winter.

rhiannon1967 · 14/09/2023 00:08

Thank you everybody.

I have decided to send them back as I'm just not happy with them.

The hunt continues for a pair of flat black knee high boots - but I guess I need ones with a zip up the side if I want close fitting to my calf. And a flat heel - but a proper heel not a moulded sole. And a square toe would be perfect.

I feel your pain, I'm a 42.5 and know how frustrating it is with 42 too small and 43 too big. The only brand I've find that fit me is Graceland 42 (from deichman) a it hit and miss but found most shoes fit but not sure about boots.

MariaAshley · 14/09/2023 02:27

Get proper horse riding boots then you can have some that fit. Knee high fashion boots are mostly cut for fat people, I find.
