Or do I really have to spend a hundred quid to get decent hair?

imo,yes they are worth every penny,go on treat yourself

Lulumama · 03/03/2008 11:53

yes, sorry, you do. the £40 straighteners are good, but GHD are amaaazing

if you go to Sally hair and beauty on the high street, they sometimes do an offer on the hair tools ones, which are as close to GHD as you can get....

flowerybeanbag · 03/03/2008 12:02

I've got a pair of she ones and my dsd has ghd They are almost identical. She doesnt bother bringing her ghds with her anymore as she thinks mine do just as good job.

I got mine from ebay for about £30 a couple of years ago. they are still great

Boots are selling GHDs now - I had an email from them the other day. You could save up your points (for about 6 years...)

foofi · 03/03/2008 12:13

I think the GDH ones are worth the money - they work a lot quicker than various other sorts I have tried. I have the wide plates which cover more hair at a time. They also heat up really quickly - just a few seconds!

pedilia · 03/03/2008 12:17

I used GHD's for years and I have thick, curly mixed race hair.
DH bought me a pair of Mark Hill straightners and they work just as well. They are one of the few alternatives that heat up to the same temprature as GHD's.

spokette · 03/03/2008 12:18

I have these and they are ace. They are just as good as ghds for a third of the price! Check out the reviews on Amazon - all give 5 stars out of 5!

spokette · 03/03/2008 12:19

I have curly tight afro hair too!

schneebly · 03/03/2008 12:48

Ooh sorry - I forgot I posted this! Thanks for all your posts - will think about it thank you!

Tbh I think it depends on your competence with the straighteners. Is taken me yonks to get my very curly hair looking anyway decent with straighteners and thats using many diff ones including a spell with GHD. Spokette I agree that Pro 230 are ace they are the ones I'm currently using.

schneebly · 03/03/2008 12:58

well my hair is almost straight anyway - straighteners just make it look smoother and better - I also like a little flick on the ends.

reviews of those babyliss ones on amazon are great!

I bought babyliss ones as well not the ones above will check the model and post in a bit. They were £30 in Tesco. Up until then I was a GHD girl. Now I cannot believe I spent £100 on them. The babyliss ones I have are great. They heat up in 30 seconds have variable temperature and my extremely curly unruly hair goes poker straight.

I think until recently GHD was the only one but now so many companies are making fantastic straighteners at a fraction of the price.
