Aldi dupes - wow colour dream coat

Saltyswee · 08/09/2023 09:43

Anybody tried this with good results? I buy the original and bought the dupe, tried it this morning.

I have to say I’m disappointed, it’s sticky when you spray it on, unlike the original and my hair is not as silky.

Has anyone else tried it? Or any other of their dupes ?

OP posts:
VeloVixen · 08/09/2023 09:47

I haven’t tried that one.

I do like their dupe of the yellow Clinique moisturiser.

Pleaseme · 08/09/2023 09:58

I like their hot cloth cleanser, the face masks ( I use the exfoliating one first then the calming one in a blue tube.) concealer in a gold click tube was great dupe for touché eclat. Tinted moisturiser good too.

I did not like their eyeliners, liquid or pencil, eyeshadow palette, illuminating primer or foundation.

Bit of a mixed bag. Not really tried the hair stuff but will follow the thread to see what is good.

Problem is that there’s no consistent stocking. Seems to be a once or twice a year promotion. So if you try something and like it you struggle to get it again or have to wait ages.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/09/2023 10:31

I just tried it last night and found it brilliant! No discernible difference between it and the real thing other than the packaging isn't great. So I'm going to stock up.

Other dupes I love are the peptide moisturiser (dupe for Drunk Elephant) the cleansing balm (dupe for Emma Hardie) and the body makeup can't remember the actual name on it but it's a dupe for Vita Liberata Body Blur. But as always it's a nightmare to get because there's no way of knowing when or if it will be in again and even if stuff does come back they often don't get enough in and it sells out immediately 🙄

This is trueIf I see something I like I buy one to try and then if it’s good assume that I’ll never see it again and purchase accordingly.

Just got two Lacura perfumes- Intense Passion and Liquid Luxe.

Absolutely gorgeous/expensive smelling - not sure what they're a dupe of but new favourites. 5.99 I think.

This.

I bought some dupe for the Benefit They're Real mascara which is great - I'm now nearly out and it's not in there anymore.

I have seen a theory, that the "dupe" is actually the really product in Aldi packaging and because it's not something you can buy regularly, you end up buying the real thing to get another - so it's all a marketing ploy by retailers. Whether it's true or not I don't know - but it's certainly plausible.

I have seen a theory, that the "dupe" is actually the really product in Aldi packaging

Most of the Aldi products carry the Leaping Bunny , whereas a lot of the products they're duplicating do not .

They wouldn't get the LB label just by sticking it in their own packaging ?
And the cost of buying the original and selling at Aldi price .

I've tried a few Aldi brand products but not tried the originals so I can't compare .
It is annoying when I like something and they don't stock it Hmm

As I said, it's just a theory I've read.

But looking into it, my "dupe" Olaplex has the leaping bunny, and the real olaplex is leaping bunny certified and I find they do the exact thing to my hair - make it greasy.

My dupe of the benefit mascara doesn't have the leaping bunny on.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2023 14:44

Yes some of them don't have the bunny
I always wondered if Aldi would actually go to all the effort of creating a "new" product . I know there;s various products out there that are made for different companies and marketed as their product .

Like with Creme de Mer , there's one vital ingredient that sets it apart from a bog standard cream.

And the Olaplex has a protein bonding ingredient that's not in any dupes . (I tried Olaplex a while back , it did diddly squat for me )

Though Aldi do their dupes so near as dammit to the originals I'm surprised they haven't got into more trouble than the M&S Colin Cake a couple of years ago .

They're a huge company , maybe they do have loads of cosmetic scientists behind the scenes Grin

CompaniesHouse · 09/09/2023 14:46

I can never tell whether the product t is really just a dupe for the packaging or whether they’ve copied the ingredients as much as they can too. Anyone know? I’ve bought some dupes that have been totally rubbish which is what made me wonder.

Almahart · 09/09/2023 19:09

They never have the good dupes in my local Aldi. I sometimes wonder if they have them in more affluent areas, but tbh there are plenty of people with money in there now.

Augustone · 09/09/2023 19:23

I swear by their Caviar moisturisers and make up and perfume dupes have all been good so far.

The only stuff I don't rate at their shampoo and conditioners, I have tried a few and ended up binning them all.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2023 19:57

They used to do a moisturisers with an oceanic smell (cannot remember the name) that was lovely .
Then there was one that sweated into my eyes from my forehead while I was driving (not good timing) that stung my eyes so much I had to pull off the road . I used that on my neck after that !

Does the perfume last?

Was massively disappointed with the last fancy perfume I bought, doesn't last the day.

They do indeed go to the effort of creating a whole new product! Well, their suppliers do. They are supplied by a range of large private-label producing cosmetics companies, predominantly in the UK and Germany. Generally either the buyers see a gap in the market and ask suppliers to develop a dupe, or the suppliers pitch their new wonder-product to the buyers.

In terms of "trouble", look up the Miracle Oil/Moroccanoil case, that caused me a load of trouble Grin

ShadyPaws · 09/09/2023 22:10

The acqua di Parma perfume dupe is good, also the collagen lip oil and jet set mask (summer Fridays dupe)

TattiePants · 09/09/2023 22:32

I got 2 bottles of the Wow dupe on Thursday and tried it for the first time tonight. I’m undecided at the minute but to be fair, I was blow drying my hair in 25+ degree heat and couldn’t really be bothered.

The Charlotte Tilbury lip oil dupe is fabulous. I’m glad I went back for two more and the Laura Mercier bath honey is also lovely. The only thing I couldn’t get was the Drunk Elephant peptide moisturiser which I’ve used previously.

Branster · 10/09/2023 18:41

I absolutely love the Aldi concealer dupe for Lancome. I didn't find my shade when I went in the shop today - very annoying as this is my most favourite Lacura item of all times since it used to be in a black, instead of gold, pen.

I did however got the Essence of Italy Giallo (yellow box) fragrance and I really like it. Supposedly dupe for an Aqua di Parma but I never tried the original so don't know how it compares. It is a men's fragrance but I do like it for myself.

I also missed out on Nuxe oil dupe end of August and I was curious to try it.

Missed out on my second favourite cleanser too which was out possibly a week ago, the hot cloth one in a tub. Now they have a rose version too. (My first favourite is Eve Lom hot cloth cleanser).

Will be trying the new acid body moisturiser, no idea what that is a copy of and I think it's new, was in the shop today)

ShadyPaws · 10/09/2023 20:08

@Branster it's v similar to the original scent
Body moisturiser is a drunk elephant dupe

Tell me about it! A couple of years ago, I bought their Glow Recipe dupes. Loved the pineapple serum and watermelon moisturising gel-cream, so of course, they’ve never had them since 🙄.

D1nopawus · 10/09/2023 20:37

Perfume rather than skincare but the poppy & barley Jo Malone dupe is a great perfume for under a tenner.

Rarely see make up in ours tbh except for urban decay eyeshadow copies near Xmas.

Branster · 10/09/2023 20:42

That's very useful to know @ShadyPaws. Thank you. Men fragrances are so much nicer, overall, compared to women's.

The concealer I mentioned is a dupe for YSL (Touche Eclat), no idea why I typed Lancome. And since using the Aldi version, I haven't been at all tempted to go back to the original.

pootlefump · 10/09/2023 22:08

I saw a few of these in my local Aldi last week but how do you know what shade to go for? The touche eclat dupe looked good but didn't want to risk the wrong shade and they only had a couple in stock

ohboohoo · 10/09/2023 22:48

This is not at all plausible. A simple look at the ingredients show that this is the most ridiculous theory anyway. These dupes are dupes only in packaging. The dupes often have completely different ingredients or if they have some shared ingredients, the actives are way further down the list meaning they are in minute amounts
