A- line skirts. Why?

I thought they were dead and buried in the 70s. For a good reason. Because IME they make anyone with a figure more curvy than a lolly stick look as if they have the backside of a hippo. There is a woman at work who has taken to wearing them recently and it really really isn't good. Especially when they finish at the knee. I went looking for some work skirts again at the weekend and everywhere I looked where flocks of short A-line skirts. Surely I'm not the only person who finds it disturbing?

OrmIrian, I agree with you.
I have an OK figure, I think, but my hips are the widest part by far. It's bone, not padding, and the rest of me is slim.
In an A-line skirt I look dumpy and fat. Long is definitely better.

I like them and find them far more flattering than long skirts

I love them but then my hips are the same measurement as my waist. Boy shaped. A line gives me shape which I need to balance out the mahoosive tits God (or whoever was doing comedy bodies the day I popped out) bestowed upon my undeserving frame. Bless the A line!

Hurrah! An ally at last auldalliance. I'm glad someone knows where I'm coming from. My hips are very largely bone these days. And it doesn't matter how you slim down or exercise they aren't going anywhere.

Well. I tried on skirt again in the spirit of open-mindedness inspired by this thread and ...no still don't like it. But it is cream which never looks great with pallid legs . And it's quite a heavy lineny fabrics so hangs quite rigidly. So it is going back after all.
