‘Investment Bag’

I recently bought a Demellier Mini Venice bag - not because of any noble reason for it being an ‘investment’ but because it was on offer and I’ve liked it for a while. When I told my cousin in passing she got angry with me and said I should only be buying ‘well known’ brands but then except for specific bags in Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Hermes couldn’t really name bags that would pass as investments.

So I thought I’d ask here. What brand / bag do you think are good investments?

True investments are brands that increase in value. Hermes bags and Patek Phillip watches are so difficult to buy new that they literally cost more second hand. (There's a post-pandemic bubble in that particular market right now and the grey market for Rolex watches seems to be softening.)

There are bags that will hold their value pretty well, provided you keep it in good condition. Some may even go up.

But in both cases you have to keep it in great condition, so you can't use it daily.

Then there's the investment in terms of only having to buy one bag for years. It's timeless and well constructed. With reasonable care (conditioning cream and just taking care of it) it should be a good workhorse bag for years. The investment isn't for financial gain, but more an investment in your wardrobe. Any timeless, well-made bag can do that.

It depends what you mean by investment. Personally, I wouldn't buy a bag with the intention of making money because it is too risky. Buy a bag to use and enjoy.
A good investment is a bag that is practical, well made, durable and more importantly that you love. Cost per wear is the key.
Most brands have classic bags that will stand the test of time eg, LV Alma, LV Speedy, Lady Dior, Gucci 1947, Celine Triomphe etc. These bags are likely to be around for many years to come and may represent better value but only if you really love the bag and will wear it multiple times over many years. If you don't like the bag or it doesn't suit your style then it's a poor investment.
If you actually have your eye on a particular bag from a high end brand then splash out sooner rather than later because prices have rocketed in recent years and will likely continue to do so as brands like LV want to appear more "exclusive" like Chanel and Hermes. Whether they are worth it is highly subjective but bear in mind that the head of LVMH is the richest person in the world for one reason - clever marketing.
Do not buy what you cannot afford and never go into debt for a bag.
