Gentle cheap face wash that removes waterproof mascara

I've been using Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel for 15+ years but it's too expensive and I've found it to be too drying in the last year or so. I've tried Simple refreshing facial wash but it doesn't really get the oily makeup and mascara off without a couple of washes.

I have part oily part dry skin, wear foundation and powder plus waterproof mascara every day.

I want a supermarket/Boots style (rather than beauty salon) brand that's much cheaper than Dermalogica but gets rid of the foundation and mascara without overdrying. And I asking for the impossible?

Don't use waterproof mascara. Use tubing mascara instead. Easy to remove with warm water.

I'm just on the end of L'Oreal Beauty Tubes which seems to be discontinued so any new tips would be welcome.

I think the answer here is a tubing mascara. There are lots of good ones.

I normally use No.7 Stay Perfect tubing mascara. It is cheap & chirpy and works for me.

Given it looks like I'm popping to Boots to look at these face wash options I can grab some at the same time @blueshoes

I use Sainsbury eye make up remover (the blue one) with cotton pads, followed by the whole face with Micellar water then finish with hot cloth cleanser (Aldi's own is every bit as good as other expensive ones I've tried)

Not a great review I'm afraid @blueshoes It's given me spots so I've stopped using it morning and evening and am just going to use it in the shower so it's most likely to be completely washed off (I would prefer to just throw it away but it's £12 and I'm not that well off!) It isn't a foaming wash, more of an oily balm and it leaves my face feeling oily even when I wash it off completely in the shower. I hardly put any moisturizer on now which saves on that but was waking up with spots and that's really not good ☹️ Am going to try the Aldi one next as I need to get some cereal from there.

I use The Ordinary’s Squalane cleanser for makeup (including mascara, both normal and waterproof) and works amazingly. It’s very gentle and you don’t need loads. I have oily acne skin and use Tret which can also be drying. I wasn’t keen on the Inkey List one.

I always double cleanse after removing makeup and for my second cleanse I use Rovectin Skin Essentials Conditioning Cleanser.

I bought these recently from home bargains £1.99 each and love them!

I recommended this upthread and should add that I also have oily skin, a little spot prone, and the squalane cleaner helps balance the oil level on my skin I believe.

Superfacialist Vit C oil is fab, and cheap. Can get it from Boots or Amazon.

I recently gave Clinique's liquid soap a go. Last time I used it, it came in a bar. I'd got sick of stinging eyes from Clarins' so called gentle foaming cleanser.

Nothing to do with this thread but I watched a bit of the film A Bigger Splash last night. In one scene Tilda Swinton used the same cotton wool pad to remove her eye make up on both eyes. I wanted to shout at the TV!
