Bugger bugger, semi-permanent colour advice please?

I've put a semi permanent (28 washes) on, it's too red on me. I was hoping for a more burnt auburn, this is def burgundy/reddish.
Fucking awful.
I washed a few times to try and fade it. Still look like a witch who has had an accident with a bottle of tomato ketchup.
So...what will occur if I put an ashy brown shade on, from the same range (semi permanent)?
I don't want to go to work like this. Even the family are boo-scaring when I enter the room.

I would use Head &Shoulders to strip the colour first, and then an Ash Brown.

tootiredtobother · 06/09/2023 16:40

apparently Vosene does the same stripping, but i think you made need a proper hairdresser to rectify

Make a paste with vitamin c tablets and head & shoulders, apply to dry hair and leave for an hour then wash out. It really fades colour but does leave it a bit dry so follow with good conditioner!

Just get some hair dye remover and use that? Something like colourb4

Don't do this if you have work tomorrow!! It will go a horrible patchy shade of orange and is awful to dye over instantly.

Can we see a picture? I'm sure it's not that bad, is your hair long enough to wear up until it washes out? When I dye my hair it's always looks extra dark at first and needs a few washes.

I did similar but with a too dark a shade of (semi permanent) brown. It looked artificial. Couldn't wash it out.

I was advised to use a colour lift remedy and this worked really well. It works by taking the colour out from the cuticle and you go back to your natural colour. It requires a lot of washing out it's not a normal process.

When you first wash it off it looks terrible but it oxidises overnight and I awoke with my natural hair once again. It also didn't damage my hair which surprised me.

It was this

Fairy washing up liquid will strip it leave it on for 20 mins and give it a good wash out

trulyunruly01 · 06/09/2023 21:16

Thanks all, I might swing by Superdrug in the morning (in my balaclava) and give that a try.
People are still looking startled. My neighbour ignored me earlier, I don't think he recognised me.
It's too red and too blocky. It might have been ok 20 years ago but I think my skin tone has lightened with age and I end up looking like an aging Morticia Adams.

Ugh been there op. Also wanted a hint of red and bought a semi permanent 'glaze'. I left it on for all of two minutes and it went post box red. It was hideous. I did use a colour stripper and dyed over it fairly quickly with an Ash blonde colour closer to my own. My hair is not in great condition now though, but it didn't drop off my head or anything. This happened about 18 months ago and my hair is now recovering! Honestly, I was happier with crap condition than I would have been keeping the embarrassing colour! I've gone right off hair dye now. Will embrace my natural colour

my82my · 06/09/2023 21:30

I did something similar to my hair at Christmas, I had a severe reaction when I dyed it again the next day (swollen forehead/ears/one eye!) I looked lovely.
I don't know if it was because I used two dyes within 24hours but do a patch test.

Don't do Fairy Liquid unless you're desperate, it massively dries out your hair. Much better to use Head and Shoulders, especially for a red.

The positives here are that a) it's a red so the molecules are massive and come out of the hair really easily (much more easily than any other colour) and b) it's a semi-permanent so it's designed to wash out eventually.
