Have you ever loved and lost a perfect item?

Inspired by the thread about perfect items you will never likely find, I got to thinking about the perfect items we no longer have. My best friend had the most amazing wallet. It was nylon, loads of pockets, room for key and lipstick (it was pre phone) could be worn crossbody on a hidden chain - she dropped it into a full pub toilet when we were out and could never use it again despite many washes- she still misses it and mourns it- and nothing has ever come close. We think it may have been Kipling but this was in the late 90s so we can't be sure. What are your loved and lost items?

A lovely blouse top from H&M. It was so floaty and flattering. Incredibly easy to wear and didn't need ironing. Lost it somewhere over the years and have never been able to find a replacement. In this hot weather I often pine for it.

Yes. A little silver necklace with a tiny star on it that my husband bought for me.

I came home from work one day and realised it wasn’t on my neck anymore. Not in the house, not in the car, not in the office… must have fallen off somewhere. Broke my heart and couldn’t be replaced as the style was discontinued.

A few years ago I found an absolutely perfect Michael Korda leather motorcycle jacket at TK Maxx, but I didn't buy it because I felt I couldn't afford spending 100 quid on it. I think of it far too often! Ever since I have had a policy that if I try something on and it's just perfect, I buy it. If it doesn't feel like that, I don't, no matter how much I need something like it.

A nude and cream coloured party dress from Coast with a bit of subtle matte embellishment on the top. Perfect shape, cut, so flattering. I would get married in it I loved it so much.

I think my mum offered to take it to dry cleaners and I handed it over in a carrier bag... I think it ended up at the charity shop. I think of it often.

A much admired Zara denim jacket .. literally ppl commented every time I wore it.. vanished into thin air

A dark green, floaty, silky, floral Kate Moss for Topshop dress circa 2008. It was the absolute height of cool at the time. I wore it once for a gig in Leeds and the next day left the bag it was in in a pub somewhere. Absolutely gutted and I think about it often. A quick Google tells me there are a few available on Ebay for £100+... It's tempting!

I had a perfect linen blazer type jacket that I wore with just about everything. Managed to leave it behind in a hotel when the taxi to the airport turned up early.
It would be in threads by now but I still miss it. 🥺

The bodice of my wedding dress was navy blue and I had a blue necklace that I wore every day and wanted to wear on my wedding day so I took it off and put in a safe place. I knew exactly where it was. When I went to get it in the lead up to the wedding it had gone. Never did show up.

A perfect floating star necklace. I've even tried to have it copied, but it's not the same. It wasn't expensive, but I loved it.

A pale blue fleece hat. It was slightly too tight, and was ideal for flattening my unruly, curly hair prior to occasions where I needed to have tidy hair.

A most beautiful hand embroidered pashmina that I bought from a market in India. It was really the most beautiful design and incredibly fine stitching combining two different embroidery techniques which was unusual. They told me that it was a showpiece made by someone to demonstrate they had passed their apprenticeship.

I wore it once, hung it up on a coat hook in a restaurant in South Kensington and someone nicked it while I was eating.

Every time I go back l look for something similar but I've never seen such a lovely design.

A pair of handmade sterling silver and peridot stud earrings, brought back from Gran Canaria by my mum.
I took off all my jewellery taking one of my kids swimming, put it in my purse. Didn't get around to putting it back on. The purse was lifted from my bag on the bus the next morning.
I miss a few of the pieces of jewellery, and the purse itself too - but those studs are the ones that play on my mind the most.

Dh got me a eternity ring after I had ds. Took it off to wash the dishes one day and it completely disappeared. I think about it often and still miss it.

These stories are so sad! Mine is a silver ring I bought from a fancy crafty type shop in the Highlands. It only cost about £30 but I loved it so much. It must have come off with my glove one day.

A deep green velvet scarf with fringing, just the right colour, weight and size. I left it in a pub and although we went back within half an hour it had gone.

I used to have a gorgeous black velvet scarf that was chewed by our hamster.

I had a pale grey silk and angora sweater years ago. It was absolutely gorgeous. Lost it on a drunken night out with a French rugby team. I have a photo of me and DF where I’m wearing it, and every time I look at the photo I remember it with sadness.
It came from Primark of all places.

Lost a beautiful black jacket that fitted perfectly. I'd been out for the evening and it was warm so was carrying the jacket.

Ended up in a taxi alone with a very creepy driver. I talked him into pulling over then jumped out, leaving money on the seat and forgetting all about my jacket!

It was the first time I'd ever worn it and I was gutted.
