Best brunette home hair dye

Exactly that, looking to save on the hairdresser cost.

I have dark brown dye on dark brown hair, never see regrowth and the odd grey to cover.

I think they usually do a toner? I like it really glossy!

Would the supermarket stuff be as good as an at home professional kit?

I use these. I usually do a colour like iced chocolate or mocha I think.

Semi permanent is much glossier and easier/safer to apply from a box. Sounds like you'd want a colour that's at least a 5, maybe even a 4.

It's worth spending a few minutes browsing in Boots to get a sense of the different colours.

I was going to suggest the same brand. They can come out a bit redder than the picture so I usually stick to the cooler shades.

I don't dye my hair anymore, but like PP I always used L'Oréal Casting Crème Gloss. Leaves hair in great condition and gives very good coverage of grey: I used it right up until I had around 80% grey.

Another vote for the Casting Creme gloss!
Really easy to do an decent grey coverage.
I also find them tending towards red so try and go for something with ash in to tone it down a bit. Therr is a really good variety of shades especially if you go to a bigger Boots!

Casting creme gloss is good for glossy colour if you only want a semi permanent. I find the number 5 shade the best for a deep brown with no red tones.
For permanent colour I really like Schwarzkopf Polytint dyes. They do a range of light to dark browns are so cheap but really good quality, much better than more expensive ones. The only thing is you'll need at least two boxes unless your hair is short and your own conditioner.

Casting crème gloss seems to be like the top pick! Thanks all :)

Hmmm, my experience of Casting semi permanent dark brown is that it made my hair almost black and stained it permanently. I’m stuck with it till it grows out.

Im a big fan of the Garnier Nutrisse ones, the ones Davina McCall advertises - so shiny afterwards!
