Flyaway hair round temples - what product would help?

I like to wear my hair in a bun or ponytail on hot days, but it just looks so messy around the front. There's lots of wispy bits that aren't long enough to go in the pony tail , although the cut is more or less one length ( just above the shoulders)- what product would keep it all smoothly in place? Hairspray doesn't seem to do the trick, and makes it look dull.
I'm almost all grey, and am very conscious of not looking like a bag lady - I want it to look neat and groomed, but it can look quite wild, although not really curly. Even if I blow dry it or straighten it, there's still the same problem with the hair around the edges. It's fine when it's down but I need to have a way of putting it up and still looking groomed. Any ideas?

I have the same issue, so following with interest.

My mother used lavish amounts of hairspray and I remember decades of use left a coating on the bathroom mirror and radiator. I've been using hairspray but would prefer something I could apply more directly to avoid the same outcome.

I did wonder if hair gel would work. Another thing I saw when searching online were wax sticks (loads on Amazon) but I thought they might make hair look greasy.

My hair after my baby has been terrible. I use a little stick called Rehab hair tamer and it’s been a bit of a life saver. It’s a small tub that reminds of the size of concealer and the brush is a little like a mascara brush. I use a tiny amount and brush it through the wispy bits and they are tamed. I don’t need to top up during the day but it’s small enough to carry in a bag if need be.

ORS olive oil edge control gel. Guaranteed to keep your hair in place. They sell it in Superdrug but can probably get it elsewhere.

Must add it doesn’t make my hair look greasy or hard but I do only apply a little bit. Once on it feels a little like hair spray but I don’t tend to touch it and leave my hair once it’s up. It brushes out easily at the end of the day.

I use the Answr flyaway & brow control stick and find it brilliant

What I do is something my hairdresser suggested — spray some hairspray into the palms of my hands, rub them quickly together, and just use my hands to smooth those hairs into where I want them to be.

Edge control stick as above or hairspray on a clean toothbrush, just a little bit will keep the flyaways tame.

Use an edge control brush or even a toothbrush for best results when applying

Thanks so much, it seems there's loads to choose from!
