Applying eyelliner ... help!

Okay ... hands up - I'm useless at applying eye-makeup. Eyeliner on top lid - when I apply a pencil liner along my top lashline, it blots onto my eyelid and then a few hours later I look like a panda cos it's blotched below my eye too.

Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong. I'm not using any other eye make-up so there's no base unless a smidgen of foundation.

TIA

I can't do pencils me, I'd love to do that smokey-eyed thing
I tend to use liquid eyeliner, which requires a bit of practice but tends to stay put.

Use a 'long lasting' eye pencil, they are available. And make sure its got something to stick to on your lid, like powder after foundation.

I sometimes put my eyeliner on after my eyeshadow so its got something to grip to.

I think the twist- up pencils that you don't have to sharpen are the best type of eyeliner.

need to be soft and warm - run them on back of hand first.

I got some good advice from a salesperson at the MAC makeup counter once - she suggested using very dark eyeshadow as eyeliner. I use a really dark brown applied with a fine angled brush. Works great and looks softer than a pencil.

First of all make sure you haven't got too much moisturiser on your eyelids or anyon your lashes, this will make everything run.
I would recommend blotting your eyelids with powder first to ensure an oil free base for the liner.
Also benefits fy eye is good ]].If you have wrinkly lids though I think you need to moisturize your lids before using this as it can look a bit cakey if you aren't young.

Also recommend bobbi brown's gek eyeliner it doesn't budge

I use liquid, it's really easy and not too thck, whereas using kohl can go quite thivk, I use kohl on my lower eye though if I do the whole smokey eye thing.
Kohl easily rubs off though, with liquid it's best to have a cotton bud if you smudge it to wipe it away.

Thanks everyone. It is a MAC Kohl liner - actually, the girl said it's not kohl and wouldn't blotch unlike the pencil I was attempting to use which was Kohl. Have tried the shadow on lid with Bobbi Brown - I used the brush they 'gave' me and it's much finer and more severe than a pencil. The gel liner is great and was using that on bottom a few years back - guess it's dried out by now. Liquid might be worth trying but does it give a nice soft line?

Shall try some translucent powder on lid tomorrow and see what happens.
