Swimsuits for dd1 (13) who likes to be covered.

Dd1 needs extra swimmers for our foreign holiday in a few weeks. She has one swimsuit which is lightly padded and has now rejected all her others. She doesn't want to wear anything you can see nipples through. I completely sympathise I don't want her to be uncomfortable.

She also doesn't love how exposed she feels in swimmers at all but we have booked a water park holiday (she is ecstatic about this though) and I need her to have 3 I reckon.

Where can I look that has swimsuits that arnt sexy looking but not cruise wear that are 13 year old friendly? I don't mind spending a bit as she's already 5'3 and a size-8-10 so I don't think she will outgrow anytime soon.

I thought about the mn Amazon swimsuit but I've got one she won't want to twin with me!

My daughter got a long sleeved swimming costume a few months ago in Tesco. It is a lot less revealing than a normal swimming costume and looks stylish too.

I bought both of these from Shein for my 9 & 11 year olds, they have padding around the breast to cover nipples, my girls love them. These particular ones only go up to size 12 but they do have others that go bigger. My friend bought her DDs bikinis from shein and said they came with breast padding too.

Shein sells to a lot of Arab countries so is great for finding swimming costumes that cover up.

I also agree with rash vest :)

an old swimmers trick is to wear an old costume over your new one. Lycra tends to be a bit looser so the underneath one holds everything down while the older one covers up a bit more.

Loads of tankinis advertised to me at the moment on social media, by somewhere called SeaFancy. I don't know what their reputation/quality is like, but a couple of them look reasonable and I might give them a try - they have shorts but quite small ones, so don't stand out as not being traditional swimsuit, and various padded tops with high necks or V neck or straps or whatever. The ones called sporty look tight enough for actual swimming, I think (though not tried them myself), whereas the floppier (and possibly more flattering on large tummies) ones would probably not work that well for actual swimming, water slides etc.

I have this from Decathlon but in a purple Aztec design. I swim 2/3 times a week (except when the pools were closed for Covid) and machine wash it. I’ve had it for 4 years and it’s still going strong. It has removable pads and has a double layer up top which camouflages things …..and I’m not a size 8 😂.

My daughter is similar, we got her shorty leg ones from decathalon which come with removable pads.

LlynTegid · 26/08/2023 19:21

Ruffle swimsuits do seem to ensure nipples shape are not visible.

LemonadeSunshine · 26/08/2023 19:34

Speedo boyleg swimsuit and similar with covered shoulders are very popular in our house, don't move too much when in water and decent coverage for modesty and sun protection.
Often available VGC on Vinted if you want to explore options without big layout

NotFastButFurious · 26/08/2023 19:40

I have a DHB one from Wiggle and it’s got like a cropped top liner built in and I don’t think you can see my nipples through it!

NotFastButFurious · 26/08/2023 19:42

Also, go for something with a dark and busy pattern. Speedo do some funky patterned ones as do Funkita which are quite a thick fabric.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 26/08/2023 19:48

I do wish these had been around in the 80s. DM didn’t like spending money on fashion swimsuits so I had a Speedo one and then DM bought a colourful halter rack one decided she didn’t like it (unworn) but too late to return so gifted it to me!

Then on a USA holiday aged 14 she bought me a Jantzen black swimsuit. In my late teen years I recall going to Debenhams with DM who sold their own range and had low and medium leg swimsuits, we both bought a couple!

My teen daughter is quite busty and we’ve struggled with swimwear and have found that accesorize seem to work well for https://www.johnlewis.com/monsoon-kids-marble-print-cross-back-swimsuit-black/p110114365

not too babyish but not grown up and covers a reasonable amount of skin!

itsgettingweird · 26/08/2023 19:56

Another commending decathlon for swimwear.

My ds is a swimmer and trains 9 times a week. Their swimwear is reasonably priced as well as long lasting!

They also do some great styles and all sorts that would fit the bill of what your dd wants.

Not rankings 🤦🏻‍♀️ should read, tankinis !

Crimblecrumble1990 · 26/08/2023 21:34

I like to wear surf swimsuits like this - I have acne on my back so like to be more covered up.

The ones I have do have padding in them, sometimes the descriptions don't mention this although the one linked does say bust support which suggests it...

Strawberrypicnic · 26/08/2023 21:50

If she would be up for a high coverage two-piece this brand has some lovely ones and they're really well made and sturdy, great for actual swimming.

I have 2 Landsend swim suits and the high neck tankini which I wear with the shorter knicker-lined swim shorts. I swim a lot and their stuff holds up well with the chlorine. They are well made and hold everything in. All of the busts are lined, the tankini the most supportive. The tugless swimsuit is my favourite. I never buy full price, only when they’re in the sale or heavily discounted.
