Black trousers: what tops to wear with them if...

you don't wear white, cream, grey, beige, caramel or pastel shades. I only wear deep jewel colours-teal, burgundy, fuchsia, purple, cobalt blue, cherry red- if I can help it, because paler colours just don't suit me. I don't wear many prints either. But jewel tones look terrible with black trousers.

Maybe I should just stick to navy trousers?

@BansheeofInisherin I'm similar and like/suit all those tones. I try and keep my look more monochrome with black trousers so say a fitted striped black and white top. I have a ton of colourful tops but I try and pair them with wide legged jeans or anything other than black now. I think black trousers and a bright top is an easy yet dated look which I'm trying to move away from.

As we are heading in to autumn OP and as they are for working from home I might try and pair a white vest top/t shirt underneath a ballet style cardigan in a colour that you do wear and that suits so that you are cancelling out the white of the vest top/ t shirt. Helena Cashmere Wrap - Theo + George

Inspired by the classic ballerina wrap cardigan, this is a simple timeless addition to any outfit. Wrap and tie it...

@BansheeofInisherin - I’m confused (sorry!) - why do you need trousers ‘for work’ if you work from home and rarely go into an office? Do you have clients visiting you at home?

Even if so you really don’t need to buy black trousers when they won’t suit the rest of your wardrobe.

Thanks all for the tips. I agree black trousers go well with aubergine, deep green, and so on. so perhaps best for winter when those colours are easily available. Looking for charcoal, olive, beige or navy now.

@RandomersAssociation I mostly wfh but occasionally need to go into the office or meet clients elsewhere too. Not much of a dress person.
