Help! Short with wide hips and out of ideas

I live in gorgeous but pretty posh short dresses that clinch in at the waist.

I’m a new mum and really want a few more casual and practical options but I find that so many trends really don’t flatter my figure. I’m short (5”) but also curvy with an hour glass figure, a fairly large chest and wide hips. I look really frumpy and feel uncomfortable in skinny jeans and a top. Lots of high waisted trousers just seem to draw attention to my new mum tum. I love knitted dresses and tights in the winter, but so many knitted dresses are too tight at the hips and not A Line. I often just give up and plonk for leggings when I’m desperate.

I’d love your ideas and tips as I add some pieces to my mum wardrobe! Please help!

I’m also petite, and I saw an interesting clip on Instagram of a short influencer type, who spoke about assessing if you have a longer torso or legs.

if you are shorter of legs, one of her top tips was to wear trousers that didn’t cling/display where her knees sat in relation to her legs, creating more of a column rather than defining a cut off point as it were.

I don’t have much else to add! I’m really struggling with casual dressing at the moment also, the current trends are still favouring the oversized which drown me, or bloody cropped tops that I’ve no need to be exposing to the public.

I have a similar figure.
What about midi/maxi dresses which have a belt or are otherwise cinched at the waist?
otherwise, leggings/loose linen or cotton shirt?
or bootcut jeans if you want to wear heels with tucked in top (maybe once you’re feeling a bit more secure with mum tum)?
