Dry , bleached damaged hair.

My hairdresser talked me into having blonde highlights to cover grey hair with a toner on top. I've been having my hair re done about every 8/9 weeks since Christmas.
She keeps saying I should have it every 6 weeks to cover the re growth etc .
I eke it out due to cost , and also don't like the idea of it having it done due to damage to hair etc.
My hair is the driest it's every been and I've been buying lots of different conditioners / masks to help but not sure if anything is really helping.

If your still reading , thanks but question / advice needed.

Is it normal to re bleach every 6/ 8 weeks ? Does it damage hair long term ?
( She does a Oraplex treatment at same time - extra £10 , doesn't ask me if I want it just does it )
Would I be better off going back to my light brown colour by dyeing and then just having root touch ups ?

Do you have a go to hair conditioner / mask for dry , bleached hair ?

Thank you

Yes if we just sat for 30 minutes with a hair mask on expecting miracles ! 😅

I have the same kind of hair. Dry, greying and bleached. Only have it bleached every 3 months though.

I keep it in good condition by using Moroccan oil repairing shampoo and conditioner. Only need to wash hair once a week. I use a leave in conditioner (revlon), blow dry cream ( redken) and when dry kerastase oil.

Once a month I use bumble and bumble Sunday shampoo to clarify, and a kerastase hair mask. Hair is in good condition.

Watching these recomendations with interest. My hair is So dry after a couple of years of highlights and dye jobs to cover grey (and I don't even have a lot of grey). Looking back, I do kind of resent how much maintenance and how much it has cost when actually I might have been better to stick closer to my natural hair colour. I feel trapped by my own hair (although actually my own vanity) now!!

I use Garnier Ultimate Blend hair food during the summer: wash & condition hair, comb it, put in a handful of the hair food and then leave that in while my hair dries naturally. A couple of days later I’ll rinse my hair in the shower and out in more food as a leave in mask. It seems to have done the trick. Oh, and a silk pillowcase which is a game changer.

My hair has grown out now but I had bleach on it the first (and last 😂) time two years ago. It immediately left it feeling dry. I used Olaplex number 3 (the at home treatment) and Christophe Robin prickly pear mask or Philip Kingsley Elasticizer to make it softer and more manageable. All helped but they were temporary - ie I had to keep doing them to maintain the effect, until the hair grew out.

You need a good quality shampoo not just conditioner/mask. I recommend kerstase shampoo

I manage 12 weeks between my bleaching but I don't have many greys and I have a root tap on so it grows out quite nicely. I did have really dry hair when I was bleaching more often and have found going longer, and using good quality products has really improved the condition. My hair dresser has just started using Maria Nila and after having my hair done there it was so soft like silk. I'd recommend it

@ADCisntme

yes I use a silk pillowcase , I'd be Hagrid without it !

I second Philip kingsley elastisizer. Much preferred this than olaplex- I found olaplex made mine feel even drier.
could take vitamins; biotin and vit B12. (Pantothenic acid) known for being good for hair and greys.

I agree with this. Use cheap products and your hair will be awful. If you use proper professional products you won't have to wash your hair as often and it'll get less damaged.

I used to use the Philip Kingsley Elastisizer on my bleached dyed straw hair and it didn't make any difference, despite leaving on for 20 mins before washing out. Mind you, I don't use other treatments or special shampoos or conditioner.
I felt I was robbed as it was/still is a very expensive purchase.

I don't know what else to use as I fear it'll be money wasted if I were to try another expensive product ie. Olaplex no. 3 (so they say), or a keratase one.

K18 hair mask is fantastic! You can buy a small sample on Amazon about £7 to see if you like it before committing to the larger bottle.

Honestly changed my hair and my new hairdresser always comments on how soft my hair is especially as I have full head highlights too

summerytop · 22/08/2023 22:54

I used to use Olaplex a lot and am not convinced- it seemed good at first but now I wonder if it damaged my hair. Elasticiser doesn't work on me either. But the Occitaine shampoos and conditioners (MN recommendation) have really helped.
