Bras AGAIN - my boobs are in revolt!!!

PonyPatter44 · 20/08/2023 15:26

If I say my boobs are revolting, it will derail the entire thread! They are definitely staging some sort of protest though - the underwire has broken again. Are there any wirefree bras that will still give me a bit of shape and no monoboob? My underwires are the only things stopping my entire body from resembling the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man in a heatwave!

I am 40DD or possibly 38E, as I do think I need a tighter band. I don't like Snag / Lemonade Dolls etc, i need more support and i want a bit of shape.

What's wrong with 'mono boob'? I've heard this only in the past couple of years or so but really, I'm pretty sure it never used to be a thing to avoid particularly. Yes, people don't tend to like really low, sagging boobs - suppose this is associated with aging. But I think this whole new level of scrutiny is just too much!

I've literally a mono boob in that I only have one left since having breast cancer a few years ago. And one is far far better than the diseased one I got rid of trying to take over my whole body! I'm just satisfied when the one I have is not in disagreement with the prosthesis and they face the same direction!!! No one else seems to notice very much. People I know often forget I ever had cancer now.

But anyway, I would say primarily wear a bra that is comfortable. Anything that digs in or allows for too much movement can cause chafing and scarring which is not good for the health.

And to further complicate issues not everyone can wear really tight back bands. Too tight can cause skin to deteriorate and unwanted pressure against bone. I'm thinnish and not very fleshy on the side I have had my mastectomy so cannot have too firm a material pressing upon scars. It's unfortunate some of the bra or bust evangelism has even reached some of the mastectomy lingerie companies regarding fitting advice. Which is incorrect IMO for the reasons just given. Also post menopausal skin can lose firmness and is more sensitive so a good bra fitter will take this into account with regards to not having bands too tight. I always find it is a balance between spreading the load between shoulder straps and back band. Thankfully I have lost weight through running and doing weights plus built some muscle up so less support is needed.

Yes totally agree as I am at a similar stage and have gone up a band size

The smaller band was digging in

BusterGonad · 21/08/2023 14:42

If your wires frequently break you are without a doubt wearing the wrong size.

I love SUGAR CANDY for a non underwired bra. I'm a 36hh in Bravissimo so a large is the correct size for me.

Would you be kind enough to link the one you wear? I'm 36gg and would love a viable wire free option. They seem to have bralettes and something else. Thank you 💕.

I am being spammed by Snag Bras which look like they'd give a reasonable shape and support.

jay55 · 21/08/2023 16:32

I like the molke one with a drawstring in the middle that helps give some shape.

For wired, I bought a wonderbra recently in a fit on nostalgia and it's brilliant. My boobs are practically under my chin with it 😂😂

Bravissimo, Ann Summers, Boob or Bust website. Independent lingerie shop if you have one.

Rigby and Peller. I only went once but it revolutionised my life. Once you’ve worn a properly fitted bra you know exact what it should feel like.

BusterGonad · 22/08/2023 08:18

For comfort you cannot beat the M&S Flexifit. Do the calculater and check your size.

Another Molke fan here. I wear the original style bra and find it gives a bit of shape and separation. If I was going out properly dressed up I would still wear an underwire but 90% of the time I don't.

They've got good advice on their website on how to measure.

RaraRachael · 22/08/2023 11:09

After many many years I think I've finally arrived at my correct bra size. I've tried being measured in shops and online calculator but they gave wildly different sizes which led to endless buying and returning of bras that were no good.

ChevyCamaro · 22/08/2023 11:21

How much is a Rigby and Peller bra? I've fantasised for years about getting a bra made to measure..

Yetisrus29 · 22/08/2023 11:42

Bravissimo do non-wired bralets, I can't say I've tried them as I definitely need the scaffolding/wires but they seem popular.

Wires also shouldn't break, the only time a wire has broken was my sports bra but that's because I kept having to bend it back into shape(apparently putting it on and twisting then pulling up causes it to bend).

YellowJoggers · 22/08/2023 11:47

Definitely get to Bravissimo.

You can buy Polish brands on Brastop once you know your size - agree with PP that they give a great shape and lift.
