Box hair dye frequency

Hi all,

I seem to be box dying my hair more often now due to greys and hair fading. I use garnier that I'm happy with but I'm dying it every three weeks. Can I safely dye it every two weeks or not?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Do people just use half the developer and half the dye as a mix for their roots? I know it has been asked and there was an answer, but I'm not sure of the proportions!
Thanks.

Oh and I also thought the mixed dye should be used immediately, and that it is very unsafe (not sure why) to keep unused mixed dye stored. Is this true?

Teddypops · 20/08/2023 12:10

Yes, do half and half. Then keep the rest in their own packaging.

I'm the same as you @halloween67 dark hair and fast growing grey roots. My hair is very thick indian hair too so makes it even more difficult. I now touch up the roots at home after 3 weeks and then professional colour every 2 months. But I wear my hair in a style that hides most of the grey roots.

@Teddypops Thank you. I should keep the unused parts in their separate containers I assume?

This is a great tip for touching up the roots!

If you are doing all your roots you will need a full box.
If you are just doing half the roots ie top and sides you could manage with half a box. Just mix up what you need and keep the stuff left in their separate containers

I try hard to go months between doing a box dye and have recently discovered this AMAZING stuff.
It's brilliant at painting' over my greys and makes my hair super soft and glossy.

Can I just ask how good this actually is at covering Greys? Mine are coming through every 4 weeks now at the root and temple and I don't want to box dye all the time, as the op says

Get a tint bowl and brush (£3.50 Asda)

Weigh out the developer and colour. It’s usually 1.5 times check the box .

use kitchen scales to weigh the colour
Eg 10g colour then 15g developer.

You tube for tips on how to do roots.

I do my own all the time now with professional colours. If it’s a basic colour you could just get a professional colour tube and developer instead of box colour kit.
