Is it wrong to have long hair when you're old?

So this is my hair. I feel lucky that it's not gone grey yet (I'm in my mid 60s), but I remember over the years having it drummed into me that once your'e over a certain age you look like a witch with long hair.

The trouble is, I don't know what else to do with it! I have this vision of "choppy layers" or something, but am not sure if it would work as my hair is very fine. I just don't know what to ask for at the hairdresser's.

Advice welcome!

I love longer hair on older women! I'm happy with my short hair - as an older woman myself- because long hair doesn't suit me but if it did, i definitely would wear it long.

@Darklane I just use any old shampoo or conditioner that's in the bathroom, but I occasionally use A Touch of Purple shampoo and conditioner, which brightens it up, you can get it in Boots and other shops. I also occasionally use products from the White Hot Hair range (online). I've always had slightly oily hair, never dry.

Thank you.

This cutting your hair off as you age is a fairly recent “rule” anyway. Up till the 1920s no woman would dream of cutting her hair off. It was a sign of becoming a woman not a child to begin to wear your long hair up.

Yes, but they wore their hair UP as you say, not the same look at all.
There are/were many cultures where the norm was for young, unmarried women to have their hair loose and for married women to have it tied up (or covered).
