Manicures: what makes a ‘nice’ one.

Preface: I am not a groomed person.

I wanted to grooming level up for my wedding, including getting a gel mani pedi.

At first I gravitated to maximalism. Diamantes and sequins and nail art different coloured tips and the rest.

Now worrying that’ll look cheap and juvinile and that even for a wedding I should pick something more neutral

…. but also don’t want to regret not having fun with it ….

Mani/ Pedi people - can you help me understand the line between ‘glamorous’ and ‘trashy’?

I don't really like the word 'trashy' but for me use of multiple brights and neons shades in larger sections can look quite garish, and might steal the show. If you keep a reasonable amount of neutral base then the detail of nail art won't be that visible except in close up pictures, you might not even know it's there. So I don't think sparkles, nail art, gems, or colour being used is going to be something you regret if it's done with some restraint. This is a set done my local place and I think it's stunning.

Are you the bride? Or a guest? You said it’s for your wedding but what you described does sound tacky so I wasn’t sure!

Rude

I'd go fairly low key for your own wedding, unless you want everyone's eyes drawn to your nails both on the day and in photos. I'm not a huge nail art fan but I like the idea of it on a clear or French base as above, so you can see the detail when close up but it doesn't dominate.

Look at bridal nails on instagram and Pinterest. There’s a lot of white/nude nail art that’s pretty but subtle.

If you are wearing a traditional wedding dress then bright colours and diamante will not really go

If you are having a brightly coloured dress or outfit then could be fab!

I had a classic red shellac for mine.

TomatoSandwiches · 16/08/2023 21:48

The current look is very well groomed but bare nails if you'd prefer that.

For my wedding I had pink with an ombré design

I’m the bride - but an older bride in a green dress

Small non-traditional event - but still ‘extended family and friend groups mingling’ etc that comes with that territory

I don’t like the word ‘trashy’ - but I know being the centre of attention comes with judgement

I had bright blue and glitter nails when I got married (will say that I always have my acrylics on and tend to have colourful, long nails with nail art anyway) 🤷‍♀️

Go for whatever you like. No point in a tasteful French or nude if it doesn't feel like you. How long til the wedding? Do you have time to have a couple of different mani's so you can get a feel of when you're comfortable with?
