I am thinking of having a big chop of my hair, which is just past shoulder length, and going for a bob. My hair is quite thick and wavy, but it’s always flat to the top of my head with no volume, I think because of the weight of it?

I really want a change which is why I was wanting a bob, but I’m just wondering if I should get some layers. I haven’t had layers in YEARS, I always just ask for a blunt cut because I used to straighten it a lot. Now I have DD who is 6 months I very rarely have time to style my hair anymore 😅 I also have a long, oval face and feel like my current hair is dragging my face down a bit.

So my question is, do layered bobs work well for thick, wavy hair? Or should I stick with the blunt, one length sort of cut? I’d really appreciate if any hairstylists (or anyone who is just good with hair!) has any advice 😊

Surely you'd be better asking people with thick wavy hair what has worked for them? IME as a person with this hair type, a lot of hairdressers are utterly clueless, try to style it with overconfidence, then brazen it out when you point out how awful it looks and take all your money for the privilege. It's very rare to find a hairdresser with actual understanding of thick wavy hair.

I've got similar sounding hair and layers are a disaster zone for me. I've got a shoulder length bob and it's all one level until the very end, where my hairdresser just chops into the bottom centimetre or so to make it less heavy.

I can blow dry under with a brush if I fell like it, or just ruffle through the ends with some hairspray - very low daily maintenance but I do get it cut every 5/6 weeks to keep the shape.

You need a hairdresser who can cut wavy hair.
Not being ageist, but hairstraightening has been popular for so long, they'll probably be older.
The easiest style will be one that is cut to how your hair behaves.
