A question for those who have had Botox

How likely is bruising (crows feet and bunny lines!) and how bad will it be? Like a black eye or just a small covetable one?

Ive just realised I’ve booked my first ever lot of Botox in for Thursday but have a wedding to go to on Saturday and I don’t want to look like I’ve been in a fight….is this a huge mistake? Should I attempt to cancel the treatment?

Thanks!!

Never had any bruising from Botox; a few pin prick marks but only visible when I looked hard.

You should stay out of the sun for a day or two though... have you got a hat for the weddi BFF? 😂

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 15/08/2023 18:24

I haven’t ever bruised from Botox. Remember it takes up to 2 weeks to work

HunterHearstHelmsley · 15/08/2023 18:28

I had a massive black eye once! Literally only once and only on one side. Other than a pin prick bruise on my forehead, I've never had bruising since.

fleur25 · 15/08/2023 18:29

I've only ever had very slight bruising at the injection site but it would be easily covered with make up. Sometimes I've noticed a different the next day, other times a few days later and full effects take 2 weeks more or less

3ormoredogs · 15/08/2023 18:33

Oh god…im unlucky enough to be the one with a black eye. Maybe cancelling is the safest option! I wasn’t getting it for the wedding but I am seeing lots of people I haven’t seen in years and I don’t want huge bruises on my face 😄

Also was meant to write coverable not covetable…autocorrect again!

It’s possible to get a bruise if they catch a vein when injecting but it’s a less common side effect. I’m saying this as someone who’s qualified in the medical sector to administer Botox and also has had it frequently myself

shivawn · 15/08/2023 18:36

I've never had bruising. If I got Botox on Thursday there would be zero change to my face on Saturday, it normally takes at least 4 days for me to see any effect. If in doubt reschedule until after the wedding though.

Toottooot · 15/08/2023 19:20

Totally depends - sometimes I end up with a massive black eye - next time tiny pin prick marks you would only see if I pointed them out. Administered by an NHS consultant too not some back street beauty salon ‘asfetiks’ company.

snowballsinhell · 15/08/2023 19:25

I've been having for Botox for ages and I've never once bruised

3ormoredogs · 15/08/2023 19:41

Thanks everyone- seems it’s hit and miss!

It’s a registered nurse I'm going to see so not someone backstreet but I’m not sure it’s worth the risk for the sake of waiting a week. The Botox wasn’t for the wedding specifically more just because I look haggard running around after toddlers!

I didn't bruise

FrangipaniBlue · 15/08/2023 20:49

Varies.

Two of my friends went together (same nurse/practitioner) for their last session.

Friend A looked like someone had punched her on one cheekbone and a puffy eye on the other side.

Friend B had absolutely nothing, not even a prick mark!!

Middleagedmeangirls · 15/08/2023 21:20

I often get small bruises because I bruise easily. You might lose still have visible injection marks 2 days in.

Botox is great but I'd wait until after your function. It takes two weeks to fully kick in so there won't be any visible improvement by the wedding anyway.

Middleagedmeangirls · 16/08/2023 14:29

I'd be hesitant bout seeing a nurse for Botox. Unless you have had a personal recommendation and know them to be very experienced I'd be wary

I've only ever had botox by doctors and dentists with hundreds of hours of aesthetic experience and even at that level of expertise I've seen mixed results.

fireflyloo · 16/08/2023 14:37

I have had very small bruises before. Once I hadn't realised and had a few glasses of wine the night before. The bruises were easily covered with make up.

Ducksinthebath · 16/08/2023 14:44

I bruise like a peach in day to day life and have only once had a noticeable bruise from Botox despite regular use for a long time.

You do realise a doctor or debrief can be 'qualified' after a quick course. They aren't necessarily good just because they are a doctor or dentist. I've known doctors who are specialists in completely unrelated fields do facial injections as a money spinner. They are no more qualified than a nurse who has done years of Botox/filler.

Middleagedmeangirls · 16/08/2023 15:05

I quite agree. It's very important to research and get personal recommendations.
