Is Vinted just EBay?

Or is it different / better somehow? I've not done my research clearly, but everyone on here seems to love it!

It's like early eBay but won't be for much longer I'd imagine. Most the items are just normal people selling old bits and pieces whereas eBay seems to have been take over by business' selling their products.

It is very similar to ebay but you get much better buyer protection. This small amount is added to your total though. I haven't needed to use it but the tracking and updates are excellent.

I love Vinted, haven't used eBay in months. I love that you can buy straight away instead of having to mess around with the bidding and I love that I can sell for free

I think the main difference is on eBay, you pay a fee to sell. On Vinted, you pay a fee to buy.

If you’re selling baby bits for a couple quid it’s really not worth paying a sellers fee. But when you’re buying baby bits for a couple quid, it’s worth the buyers fee.

I'm not sure what the purpose of the buyer protection is though? I received an incorrect order and had to pay to return it to the sender, that's the main downside compared to ebay.

As a seller I had an item go missing on Vinted. Both me and the buyer got refunds.

As a seller it's amazing and so much better than eBay. No more extortionate fees, plus the buyer pays for their postage upfront so you don't have to worry about that. (eBay takes a portion of your sale including postage fees, so as a seller you're losing profit just from the postage alone).

I also love Vinted as a buyer, easy to see how sellers are reviewed, easy to interact with individual sellers to ask questions and I like that you can always make offers too. I haven't sold on ebay for months now and have no intention to do so again.

I agree! Vinted is a more user friendly app, eBay is so clunky in comparison.

It is a strange policy that you have to pay postage to return an incorrect item, but this has only happened to me once and is far outweighed by the amount of times I lost out on eBay by guessing postage costs inaccurately.

IMO it's completely different to Ebay. The UI is different. The way you can search and filter feels more like buying from an actual shop somehow. It's particularly good for buying children's clothes from pricier brands. If there is a specific item I want from e.g. Jojo I will search for the shop name then filter down by age range, type of item, colour, etc. I've often found very specific items on there, and more than one of them too. If not that then something very similar to the one I'm searching for. This is mainly for baby/children's clothes, though. I guess people buy/receive so many items and go through them so quickly that the Vinted market is saturated with tiny expensive Jojo Christmas dresses that have been worn precisely once.

To add, it also seems to just be more popular amongst sellers now, at least for clothes. So there's just more to choose from and you're more likely to find the item you want. This lends to the "like a proper shop" experience and continues the snowball effect of migration from Ebay.

You can't return on Vinted unless the item is significantly not as described (generally, is stained and in bad condition while claiming to be Very Good with no mention of faults), whereas many, though not all, sellers on Ebay let you make returns for other reasons. Even if you can make a return, you pay to do it, so you're out of pocket because you tried to buy something but it turned out the seller wasn't decent and legitimate.

thedevilinablackdress · 15/08/2023 07:21

I buy A Lot on eBay and have dipped in and out of Vinted for a look, but never quite got the hang of it - largely because the photos tended to be quite poor. Maybe I should try again...

thedevilinablackdress · 15/08/2023 07:23

Can you have saved searches on Vinted? That's a feature I really like about eBay.

OooohAhhhh · 15/08/2023 07:29

I'm new to vinted, I've sold all 3 of my items and haven't had any problems so far. I have with eBay in the past, people trying it on etc.
I feel more protected through eBay tho, as they have channels to go down if any problems arise, but I haven't needed to do that yet so I can't really compare from that side of things.
I missed the 80% off selling fees on eBay, so I'm tempted to use vinted until it comes around again.
I like the bidding side of things on eBay tho, as some things sell for more than expected.

Yes! It automatically stores your previous searches 😊
