Hi MN, we are going on a beach holiday. I always take way too much. It's me, dh, 7yo Ds and 9mo dd. How much would you take for each child for 8 days. It's AI so not taking anything you would need in self catering.

I always operate an n+1 policy. So for 8 days I'd take 9 days' worth of clothes. Possible n+2 for young dcs. If weather is reliable where you are going you don't need to worry about alternative outfits for different weather. I'm always amazed how massive other people's cases are when we go on holiday.

By 9 days worth of clothes I don't necessarily mean 9 completely different things. Dd aged 9 will wear her favourite dress several times in one holiday!

I usually take three evening outfits and wear three times on holiday for a nine day holiday.
Three swimming costumes and three cover ups around the pool. The costumes you can wash every day and have dry very quickly.
One pair of pool slip one and one pair of evening birkies.

I'd take something like:
2x trousers/leggings, 3x shorts/skirts, 8x t-shirts, 2x long sleeved shirts/light cardigan, 9xpants/socks
Swimming stuff
Trainers
Beach shoes

Your husband packs his own case.

Don’t bother with evening outfits for the baby. You’ll hope they’ll be napping most of the time. My baby at that age wore a nappy and a t shirt in the day. A UV suit in the pool. Evening was a short, comfy romper so they could be transferred from the pram after dinner to bed. You don’t want to dress them in holiday outfits and then piss them off by getting them out and undressing them. Blankets in case it is chilly. Buy nappies when you are there.

For you-

two bikinis
two day dresses for going down to breakfast or sightseeing. No more than this. One to rinse out and dry, one to wear.
one workhorse pair of trousers- something that could be worn with a nice bandeau top for an evening AND for a day trip
5-6 evening outfits- you will have a favourite that you feel comfortable and good in and you will want to wear again.
two nice basic tops in neutral colours that can be dressed up or down
a pair of denim shorts
a pair of metallic haviana flip flops or similar- wear day/night with everything
pashmina for evening chill
nice beach bag that doubles as a handbag

I’m a bit unsure about the older DC- depends how messy and active they are. Maybe apply some of the same principles as yourself

This is brilliant thank you! Yes you're right about all the baby clothes and not faffing them About. We did another holiday a few weeks ago and I came back with so much unused items!

Thanks all for the tips, I'm actually going to challenge myself to pack light this time.
