Hair curling....how on earth?

I would like to be able to have loose long curly hair for evenings out. My hair is just below shoulder length and slightly layered.

Try as I might I can only get my tongs to create a curly bob which looks more uptight than anything.

What am I doing wrong?

are you curling it right to the roots?

naturally long curly hair is actually fairly straught at the roots, the weight of the hair pulls the curl out.

Try curling it to halfway, and see how it loos?

loos

carmen rollers are the way to go. (so my sister says)

Heated rollers

I've got dead straight hair and - for shame - have used my heated hair curlers pretty much every morning since my 18th when I got a set as a birthday present Suspect I am actually addicted to having bouncy hair as two day stay in hospital following birth of DS caused withdrawal symptoms. So be warned! Let us know how it goes as could talk hair for hours (otherwise normal!)

when i had long hair and curled for a wedding I had to use a setting spray before curling (think I got a pantene one) that held the curl better for me (sobs at the past memory of having long hair and having time to do different stuff to it)

lol echobeach, they are great though, my sisters spent most of the 80s in heated rollers. they're the only thing that really lasts though aren't they, unless you want a demi-wave

Babyliss heated rollers! Go get them!
I used mine last night before a night out and my hair is still curly this morning.
I used a new product with them this time... Charles Worthington, called something like Heat Spray, or suchlike. You spray it on, curl up and when you unleash the curls, they are super glossy. I also swear by a liberal dose of Ellnett hairspray too and your curls will be good to you.
My hair is very fine and pre-Babyliss days I used to faff around with tongs but I haven't looked back!
I've even mastered the knack of using the metal hairpins that come with the rollers!

Also good is to bung a few non-heated rollers in and then get into the bath as the steam helps the curl to hold. That and lots of Ellnett...
