Short Sleeve Cashmere Jumpers - What is the Point?

Like the one 007 baby mama wore in the of the last film, from NPeal.

I love the style but you must be either too hot if it’s warm enough to have open arms, or too cold if you wear in winter. If someone will clear the mystery, I may be really tempted. Thank you!

Keep your shoulders warm and allow your arms to be free.

Now cold shoulder jumpers I don't get.

I used to think exactly the same until I got to perimenopausal age and discovered I need clothes that keep me warm and cool all at the same time 😄

Dropdeaddeb · 11/08/2023 08:36

You're not wrong. I've got one that's been hanging in my wardrobe for over 15 years and has yet to be worn. I try it on now and again but every time it feels wrong and gets swapped for something else.

Cailleach1 · 11/08/2023 09:51

I wear them as a sort of pullover. Over a thin silk shirt, so there is no bulk. Allows both to get an outing as neither would be much good on their own in winter.

You’ll understand when you’re menopausal.
It’s a good garment when it’s too hot for a jumper but too cold for a T-shirt. Also, cashmere is so good and sought after because it maintains your body temperature, it doesn’t make you warmer or cooler, it just allows your own temperature to be maintained.
I absolutely love them.
HTH.

They're great for work - I often end up shoving sleeves up for writing/typing/whiteboard etc anyway. I'm always trying to keep warm, so it surprises me every time I do it!

Like the classic twin set style? I assumed the point was to layer nicely without the bulk of long sleeves under a cardigan. I secretly harbour a deep affection for the Lucille Bluth aesthetic, with pearls and a vodka martini.

Moonshine5 · 11/08/2023 10:20

"007 baby mama" lol

TheOGCCL · 11/08/2023 10:49

I’d say they are for very cold weather so that’s worn as base and you can then add a cardigan of some sort without feeling bulky. Good for large busts where chunky jumpers usually make you look like a sack of potatoes.

ChilliPB · 11/08/2023 21:08

I have a couple I’d wear for work, thin/fine knit so tuck nicely into wide leg smart trousers, not too bulky and not long sleeves (annoy me when I’m typing) and not too hot in a warm office. However warmer and smarter than a tee shirt, less fussy than a blouse.

BHRK · 12/08/2023 09:57

This is why all my short sleeve jumpers never get worn

redfacebigdisgrace · 12/08/2023 10:00

I agree - why do you need the warmth but have shirt sleeves? And what’s with the “baby mama” - am I now in an episode of the Kardashians?! Urghhh hate that phrase

redfacebigdisgrace · 12/08/2023 10:00

short not shirt 😬

Housewife2010 · 12/08/2023 11:02

Far odder are the sleeveless polo neck tops worn in the 90s, often by Princess Diana. Also sleeveless hooded anoraks. I never I understand either of those. If it's warm, I don't want my neck covered and if my head and body are in need of a waterproof garment, my uncovered arms will get wet.

QueueEtwo · 12/08/2023 12:11

Ah I love a sleeveless hooded anorak, great for when you're nipping in & out of the car, can just be thrown on over whatever I'm wearing!

I've never actually seen anyone in one with bare arms!

I love that look. I've been looking out for a proper vintage twin set for ages.

I have one my DSis bought me, and I am still puzzled by it. Good colour, decent cashmere, just not me!

I didn't mean the arms would be bare but obviously would get wet as they wouldn't be protected from the rain in the sleeveless anorak.

QueueEtwo · 12/08/2023 13:01

Doh! Yes of course get your point!

I never wore mine for say a whole afternoon out in the rain but for nipping in & out of shops, supermarket, gym I absolutely loved mine!

bge · 12/08/2023 13:51

I loathe anything being around my wrists so I would wear one to work in spring and autumn. In fact I might knit myself one!

SirChenjins · 12/08/2023 13:54

I don’t get them either. I’m either cold, in which case I want all of my upper body to be warm including my forearms, or I’m warm in which case I want light cotton material with short sleeves or no sleeves. Late perimenopausal here.

The ones I’ve really never understood are short sleeve roll neck jumpers. Just why?
