I'm absolutely crap and useless at clothes. Awful. I don't know what suits me, I look dreadful all the time. I've attached an image. I'm overweight I know, also short.
I don't havr much money, I have no sense of style and I never have ideas or inspiration.
If anyones got any suggestions could you please include links.
Thank you so much.

Bobbi Brown used to do a makeup bag refresh for a small fee which you could redeem on products.

I’ve always found Mac to be good for makeovers but Space NK can be good too. Maybe Nars or Clinique as they have great foundation for older skin.

I was always told I was an hourglass so honoured all of the traditional style advice. So clothing with 50s style, super nipped in at the waist, pencil skirts and bodice tops.

but I am actually a soft natural. I need unbroken lines, nothing skin tight, a boho edge to my clothing. I need space between me and my clothes, and deep wide necks that can cater to the width of my shoulders and back. I look best in light knits and draped linen.

Anything too ornate looks costumey rather than whimsical and cute- like they’d look on a romantic.

I forgot to add these to my earlier reply but maybe something like is? 😊 xx

I disagree with the advice to always tuck your top in. This doesn't alway work if you are petite. I am only 4' 10" and often a tucked in top looks awful on me as I am very short waisted. It can can look like I have pulled my skirt/trousers up to under by boobs! Also it can really cut you in half and make you look shorter. I do sometimes tuck my top on but it very much depends on the style of the top and waistband. Leaving it out often looks much better on me and elongates my shape. You just have to experiment.

I agree it's really hard to find jeans that fit. I recommend Levi's and Uniqlo.

Agree. I mostly look awful with belts or with things tucked in.

I also totally disagree with the stuff about defining your body or style type. Wear things that you like and that you feel suit whatever you’re doing. It really doesn’t matter if you’re ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ or a ‘Dramatic Diva’ or an ‘Elegant Audrey’ or whatever.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
Yes, that's in Anuschka's book. I chortled to myself at those. If I have a style I'd call it 'relaxed and appropriate for my day' 😁😁
I also agree about the shirt tucked in advice. I'm 5ft8 but it makes me look like an oompa loompa.

OK, you are not hugely overweight but those clothes are not doing you any favours. The jeans ( jeggings?) would be OK in winter with a big jumper or long shirt, with boots, but with an ordinary t-shirt and trainers with socks, they don't look great. TBH, very few women would look good in that unless they were very toned and slim, and even then.... your top would need to be longer than bum length. And you'd need to be careful about footwear - boots are easy, but those trainers don't balance your legs well.
If you are attached to that style of t-shirt, then you need to have different jeans to wear it with, wide leg might work on you if your waist is OK ( look terrible on me but I am fatter than you) - with wide leg jeans or trousers you'd need a t-shirt tucked in.
Choose some new jeans in a current style, then try on a variety of tops to see what works. Converse or chunky trainers would work with wide leg jeans.
I find dresses are easy to wear and those linked by BrightonMumof3 would work well, especially with a little denim jacket or something else over the top. It looks like you have nice legs and ankles, so maybe find something that shows them off ( not necessarily a mini).
It might be worth booking a personal stylist at John Lewis to help choose styles and proportions that work for you.

Niftythrifter · 11/08/2023 18:49

OP I am shorter than you and have some Primark straight leg jeans( unfinished hem) so I would say take a look in Primark for low cost jeans.

Marlaysydney12 · 11/08/2023 19:09

I have a large chest and I find the style of t-shirt your wearing really unflattering on me! Either no sleeves, or cap sleeves, or sleeves that end below the elbow work better. When they hit mid upper arm it really emphasises the bust.
Also some ankle length straight cut jeans would be more flattering and more current. Levi 501s are great if you have slim hips and are great quality.

Middleagedmeangirls · 11/08/2023 21:40

I'm your height. I buy cropped or 7/8 length jeans and leggings and they are the perfect full length on me.
