Which dress for village hall/garden party wedding?

I have about a week to go and have left it a bit late in the hope that my postpartum tummy might've magically disappeared 6 months after having a baby. Sadly it hasn't, and I'd really like to find something lovely that doesn't make me feel self conscious about my tummy and I also need access to breastfeed my son.

I'm size 10, 5ft 8 with dark hair and olive skin tone. Budget £200. Here are a few of the things I've tried on so far and also that I've been eyeing up online.

Haven’t read the replies, but I love the Reiss jumpsuit - it’s gorgeous! You might have to check neckline though - it would have been very low cut on me when breastfeeding!

Out of the others, I don’t like either of the hope and ivy dresses. I quite like the reiss dress but it doesn’t blow me away.

SmiggleBag · 11/08/2023 20:26

Thanks for all the tips, I really can't decide but am leaning towards the jumpsuit or something else entirely at the moment! Argh.

Stine Goya or Rixo are better. Farm Rio are great for more casual weddings.

The dresses look dated. Jump suit ok if you are happy with slip style on top. If it’s a chilly day, it’s going to need something over it.

@TizerorFizz

nah you just do without a jacket.

I can’t see how any kind of jacket would work with it.

A wedding is one time when it’s not comfort at all costs!

SmiggleBag · 11/08/2023 20:56

Here is the jumpsuit (featuring my little one trying to pull his pram apart). It is quite low cut actually...

It you are going to spend that much money I'd go for the jump suit. The dresses are nice but not worth that lind of money. IMHO.

Bunny2021 · 11/08/2023 23:40

The jumpsuit looks fab!

Bubblebathpanda · 11/08/2023 23:43

The jumpsuit looks lovely on you!

Positive41 · 12/08/2023 08:01

That is beautiful.

Stands out and very classy.

JudgeRudy · 12/08/2023 09:23

For once someone has shared choices that I'd actually wear myself. Not a floral tent or jersey granny dress in sight!
I think all would be suitable other than the shirt dress. It's a nice pattern but a little casual and short. I'm drawn to the jumpsuit though. It's slightly 'corperate' but could be pimped up with accessories so easily...gold, silver or tutti fruitti pop of colour...all would work and I think you'd get plenty of wear out of it again. A really versatile piece.

ToughFuss · 12/08/2023 09:28

Okay, my personal tastes are such that I don’t like short dresses tor weddings and I don’t like jumpsuits at all, so that narrows it down a lot! I love the green hope and ivy dress, I’ve got one on Vinted favourited for a wedding I’ve got next month actually… I should probably commit 😂

ToughFuss · 12/08/2023 09:29

although, now I’ve read the full thread, you do look fabulous in the jumpsuit! With hair, makeup, shoes etc it’ll look stunning given how nice it looks in a changing room in socks!

DeliciouslyDecadent · 12/08/2023 09:40

It's just me, I know, but I don't think showing loads of skin is good at any wedding. Likewise spaghetti straps when you are breast feeding- how will a bra work? Strapless bra?

I'd choose a wrap over dress or a ruched 'tummy' dress to hide your tummy if it's bothering you. Knee length of longer. Maybe not too floaty and wide sleeves because if your boobs are big you might look 'all top' and too heavy.

I know they are now a cliche but at times you can't beat a floral midi, short sleeves, maybe a shirt style with a button from for feeding?

@DeliciouslyDecadent

those sound like very safe options that OP doesn’t need because she looks fab

DeliciouslyDecadent · 12/08/2023 11:50

@LuckySantangelo35 Yes, she does look fab. I just don't think it's right for a wedding, even in a village hall.

Too much boob on show, too low cut.

A nice outfit for a different occasion.

Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream · 12/08/2023 11:54

I like the Claire dress. I feel like the jumpsuit is too low cut (maybe just me but I’d be worried about a wardrobe malfunction!) and I’m not keen on the Frances dress.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 12/08/2023 11:57

I like them all except the first one!

ActDottie · 12/08/2023 21:03

Jumpsuit 100% it’s lovely and being quite tall I imagine you’ll look amazing in it!

I think the Reiss dress is maybe a bit short for a wedding. I always try to wear something at least knee length.

the first two dresses are okay but nowhere near as stunning as the jumpsuit

floribunda18 · 10/08/2023 17:34

Or you could get an actual nursing dress.

This is pretty

Crikey that’s horrible. Sorry. But it’s so not in the league of the others and beyond frumpy.

Imisssleep2 · 13/08/2023 07:52

I personally prefer the top two the blue and white is a bit casual for a wedding if an all day guest, if your worried about your tummy maybe try some shapewear knickers, I feel alot less self conscious with them on, although if your a size 10 I don't think you have anything to worry about x

Awittyfool · 13/08/2023 10:59

Jumpsuit although anyone is spending £200 on a village hall /outdoor wedding is beyond me. I’m presuming the vibe is boho or casual.

There are so many lovely expensive when new, worn once items out there. Do you bit for the planet and save money.

Also once the tummy goes that will become your “ fat “ outfit ( I don’t think you’re the least bit fat by the way). Will you wear it afterwards?

ScarlettDarling · 13/08/2023 11:51

Jumpsuit is lovely as is the green dress!

notacooldad · 13/08/2023 12:12

i love all your choices!

HikingforScenery · 13/08/2023 12:21

I love The Claire. All the others are meh.
IMO, both reiss items are ‘meh’ at best.

TheGoodBanana · 13/08/2023 12:56

The first dress will be perfect. I absolutely love the jumpsuit but I feel the dress will be more flattering. I always feel conscious of my stomach in a jumpsuit.

TheGoodBanana · 13/08/2023 13:23

I hadn't seen your picture when I posted, the jumpsuit looks fine on you.
