Olaplex has made my hair soft but frizzy - help!

Trying to remedy my frizzy hair which absorbs damp like a sponge, I thought Olaplex might be the holy grail and merrily bought the whole range (fools and their money, I know).
Been using it for 3 weeks and cannot deny any longer that my hair is worse than ever. Yes, it is soft, super soft, but it is flat, lifeless and so unbearably frizzy.
Any experience of this.. will it miraculously change my life in a couple more weeks? Do I ditch it now and try to recoup my losses on eBay?
Please hit me with your recommendations.
Yours, bereft in Bedfordshire Blush

I used it on and off since it’s launch. Back then there was only 1,2 and 3. I never felt I saw any results, but as the active ingredient works on the inside , you’re not really supposed to “see” the results.

1 is the most concentrated, 2 was not as, and 3 only had a bit. 3 was seen as a top up, and was never really effective without having the salon treatment.

Soon Olaplex wanted to branch out to the wider public rather than just salons, which has resulted in the (bollox) shampoos, conditioners, oils and the like. These contain even less of the active ingredient and really just play on the hype the salon treatment had.

If you’re using 3+ on their own, it’s all a big con.

Personally I gave up on it all last year. I have moved on to give K18 a try. It’s ok I guess but not mind blowing.

if it were me, I’d suck it up and not bother buying Olaplex again

it wrecked my hair, it’s still not back to normal over a year later. I don’t know if it caused protein overload and I’ve read that it didn’t add moisture etc but I couldn’t run it fingers through my hair and had loads of breakage and my hair was pretty much fine prior to it. Never again. I have long straight hair, coloured slightly darker and it was in decent condition prior.

Used it a couple of times and it was amazing, third time not so much so don't bother with it now.

Coffeesaurus · 10/08/2023 00:15

Sounds like your hair needs moisture perhaps, not protein?

Try asking a good hair dresser for a moisturising mask?

I would personally stop using it asap, try a gentle shampoo and pop in somewhere for advice.

I love their serum and oil as everyday styling products but don't see any improvement from using the treatment.

Guavafish1 · 10/08/2023 02:36

its caused me hair loss

ithinkhesawus · 10/08/2023 05:57

I think you're overdoing it. Use one product and give your hair a break from it a bit. I use 3 once a week and that's enough for me. I can't imagine using the whole range for 3 weeks!

3rdtimemumma · 10/08/2023 06:27

Agree with other posters. I like 3 and use about 3 times a year (curly hair). Too much protein can make hair lifeless and dull. I fo notice quite a good difference to my hair for several months after using "3".

Have tried others in the range and imo they're awful and made hair worse (except 1&2 I had at a salon and were pretty good, but way over-priced and didn't bother again). One of the products that was a liquid spray to put know before "3" was so awful. Left my hair dry etc.

I wouldn't use it if I had a different hair type that wasn't curly. I've used it for 8ish years now. There's a lawsuit in the u.s. and lots if people saying it's caused hair loss/breakage. If I wasn't such a long-term user, I wouldn't have tried it now.

PepperJacksBestHo · 10/08/2023 10:04

Wow, thank you all.
I should have said I wash my hair 2/3 times per week, so using it for 3 weeks means I've probably only used it 8 times or so.
Needless to say I have washed my hair this morning and gone back to using my Monday bottles! Letting it air dry this morning as short on time but will do a moisture mask tomorrow.
Thankfully I bought it all on a really good 2-for-1 deal direct from Olaplex, so didn't spend a fortune.
Sad to see it has had lasting effects for some people and caused hair loss and breakage. Interesting to read about the US lawsuit, I found a Reddit thread which was eye opening.

has left a permanent kink in my hair so I have to now straighten it everyday under the top layer of hair it’s now curly at the back avoid it it’s rubbish and I was only using the number 5 I think it was the leave in crème stuff

Jazzmas · 11/08/2023 00:15

Olaplex isn’t a protein treatment btw, and only a few products have a trace of protein . This is a huge misconception about Olaplex

mibid · 11/08/2023 01:13

Have you ever considered a keratin treatment? Namely by keratin revolution, the nano intense treatment. Other ones have crap in them like formaldehyde - and smell like wet dog.

It's changed my life. Any frizz that I have is gone. Its pricey at about £200 but lasts about 4-6ish months for me.

Look at Keratin One on Tiktok if you have it. I have been to them once before but use another salon closer to home that offer the same treatment. They have to straighten initially it to lock in the treatment but you don't necessarily have to keep that straight, sleek look.

I'm not even joking when I tell you that washing, blow drying and straightening my hair would take 3+ hours. Now the whole process is less than an hour. Life changing.

I have read that Oribé Gold Lust is good for frizz. It is expensive, though (and I haven't used it myself).
