I'm easy hoping somebody can give me some advice for my daughters break outs, I am clueless about anything like this as I was lucky enough never to have suffered it. And when I was a teen it was soap water and a bit of cream from a round blue jar!

Anyway, she's 15 and getting really terribly self Ciscos about her ache. It can get rather red and angry looking and she's very worried it could scar.

Could anybody make any suggestions for products or a skin care routine that may help? When I've googled it I've been lost in a loads B of AHAs and niacin things and I'm clueless. I don't want to do more harm than good.

@LookingForPurpose was it the foaming face wash that you got?
Looking for my dd

I really can't thank you all enough. By chance we got an appointment with the Gp on Tuesday and she started on antibiotics right away. Not even a week and the difference is huge. She's got all of her friends asking what she's using as her face looks so much less angry. The lumps have almost gone too. I am so very glad I posted as other wise I wouldn't have had any idea that the GP could that this.

The cleanser is her absolute favourite and we have it on subscribe and save.

@LookingForPurpose ah that’s great news. So glad you were prescribed something and it’s working and your daughter is happy. I have a phone appointment with a nurse practitioner tomorrow morning (after reading your post), for my 14 year old DS, so I’ll keep you updated about the outcome.

LookingForPurpose · 21/08/2023 16:33

Any suggestions for other creams/gels to help reduce scarring as it heals?

My DD is age 14. Had lots of friends up to the last 2 yrs in primary.then literally lost them all.talks monotone.rarely gets excited about anything. Did nothing i thought for her end of yr tests. Got into the car on one of the test days and said she didnt know what exam was on that day.i knew she was bright but was all set to get extra tuition if needed but guess what straight A s . I should be thrilled but am scared of the future for her. She is a perfect student- those words- according to the report.
We toyed with diagnosis
Met with a clinical psychologist who told us if she is autistic it wong change her. Has issues with sounds.approached some OT s to help with strategies. Not interested- didnf want to meet her,, wanted us on zoom and then a report would be orinted to aid a duagnosis of autism.1200 euro for that
.i was fuming- all i asked for were sessions to help her manage sounds.i just thought that private OT thumb must be sore cutting and pasting nanes and printing reports There is big money in autism diagnosis. Itz the new buzz word.
In addition my cousins daugter is 23 and autustic and is now comlaining at being labelled in college. I domt know what the right answer is but autism is money machine now for professionals . So a t the mo im searching for private OT and CBT to address her issues socially etx etx. Just another view. To my mind its too much time meeeting the child to some of these ' experts'

Doctor prescribed 5% Acnecide gel for a month so just started with that for my teen DS. Fingers crossed it helps. If not doctor said we’ll progress to the next level gel/cream with antibiotics in it. So pleased we’re on the right track now with skincare after trying so much for 2 years. So glad I saw this post.

Apologies for reactivating the thread; can I ask what antibiotics did she take?

I have taken my daughter 3 times to the GP for acne over the last few year; first 2 face creams didn’t work; last one seems better but go wasn’t keen on antibiotics; she said to see how it goes with the last cream. It has not cleared up completely and she has some marks; because she mixed it with other over the counter treatments which gave her terrible breakouts; so I told her to stick to dr treatment. Haven’t found a good moisturiser. She uses Cerave foam and the dr gel which is called Epiduo. She has been suffering with acne for a few years as she started quite early, she is 13.

I am the op.

My daughter's face is looking much better. She has two x two week courses of doxycycline I think it was, 10- 12 weeks apart. It definitely helped along with the cerave foam cleanser. She's also now Uber investigation for PCOS as her testosterone was a little high and she has some quite coarse body hair along with horrific periods.

My teens use cereve SA wash. Acnecide was a bit strong. I took roaccutane as a teen and later used LRP effacler for hormonal acne in my 30s. Moved on to tret in my 40s and don't need anything else now, so lots of effective options for your daughter.
I think acne treatment has got so much better in the last few years

Thank you. I will take her to the dr again and see if She can get the prescription for antibiotics. I just concious they can be quite strong so was waiting to see if the cream worked.

She started having acne quite early , also pubic hair so I think there is a hormonal imbalance too. But I took her to the drs a few times and they haven’t said much apart from sending some creams. Her periods are quite irregular at the moment. Maybe I ask to see a different dr. Not sure what PCOs is, will google it.

They may need to try different antibiotics till they find one that works.
