Losing my eyebrows….

Whattodonex · 09/08/2023 14:36

I’m 45, over plucked in the 90/00’s and recently they’re literally vanishing. Photo attached and any advice gladly received! Have recently had a thyroid test for something else so I know it’s not that. Is it simply another peri symptom?

I've got less eyebrow hair than you. I had mine microbladed three years ago and I've never looked back.

kakacacao · 09/08/2023 15:30

I used castor oil 1-2 a day and they regrew in a month.

I Have no eyebrows left really, and my eyelashes are sparse. I have thyroid problems though. My daughter in law started losing her eyebrows so had micro blading and loves it. Has it done once as year - I think. I’ve thought about it.

I started using revitabrow and revitalise a couple of months ago and they are growing back

I used to have microblading about 5 years ago but can't afford it now so I thought I'd give something else a go

Do you know what caused yours to thin? I’m wondering if mine is due to peri and this won’t work.

Do you know what your thyroid numbers were? Did they test for antibodies? The range the NHS uses is different to that in most other countries and it is ahem not unheard of for patients to be told all is normal when it's really not.

I'm 35 my hair is thinning that I'm using Rogaine I do have on and off anaemia but I don't know what is the cause, could be hormonal. I believe you can use Rogaine on your eyebrows too but double check. I think I heard this on Youtube said by a dermatologist reviewing Minoxidil (rogaine)

I've got little or no eyebrows either. I have got underactive thyroid but this started way before I was officially diagnosed (I initially considered it as a cause but it was ages before my levels got to the point I was put on thyroxine). They've never grown back. I use make up to look like eyebrows (boots no 7 version of Benefit Browzings) but for me the annoying thing about it is in the summer. It became clear the purpose of them is to stop sweat getting in the eyes. I find that really irritating.

I'm also post menopausal. I was peri when it started, I had a hysterectomy in the interim which means I'm not quite sure when I went through it properly (still have ovaries but obviously haven't had a period for 8 years.

I'm quite fair so my brows were always fair.

I've never had much by way of eyebrows, am also peri and I think I'm going to lose them all!

I just draw in with a pencil, I've got quite good at it. I've no idea whether peopke think it looks wierd because I doubt anyone would tell me. It looks OK to me.

I'd really like microbladibg but am so worried I won't like it. I know people who had theirs done years ago in the very harsh sharpie manner when it was fashionable and they're just not fading.

SlowlyLosing · 10/08/2023 10:17

I also had thyroid done and it was normal. I'm now going to go and look up the numbers!

Whattodonex · 17/08/2023 21:27

Any recommendations on great eyebrow pencils/products?

Mine are the same. I over plucked too. From conversations I have had and things I have read it is common if you over pluck.

ClaraBourne · 17/08/2023 22:26

Post menopause my eyebrows are now a shadow of their former selves. I've just bought a castor oil biotin rosemary oil combo from Amazon as all of these things are supposed to help hair growth.

I'll keep you posted!

I think ageing is the biggest reason. Most women have very sparse eyebrows and eyelashes as they get older. Over-plucking might not have helped, but then your eyebrows would have been the same ever since the 90s. Micro blading is excellent. I've had it done three times now. First time was the best. The lady who did it had a great taupe colour. Looked very natural. The last two times she has used a warmer more brown colour (taupe colour has discontinued), and it doesn't look quite as good. Much better than no eyebrows, though. I work with a lady who had hers tattooed, and they look really good and very natural. Better than micro blading. I'm too scared to go for a permanent choice like a tattoo so will stick with microblading.

I agree re microblading. Mine are amazing. Find the best beautician though as it lasts ages.

I was using a fantastic eyebrow brush before microblading. I'll try and remember the name. You can get various shades. It gives fine strokes and looks natural.

Glossier brow flick.

Try taking collagen too.
