Wobble about wedding outfit!

JaceLancs · 06/08/2023 21:40

Help!
I am MOB this week and stressing about everything
Bright pink lace dress with baby pink shoes which I’m trying on around house for comfort
Floral clip for hair with real flower corsage in matching colours
gold clutch bag
I’ve got a silk backed cardigan thingy if get cold in evening but hoping for sunshine and that I won’t need it - it’s baby pink and matches shoes
Will try and attach pictures which won’t out me lol
I had every good intention to lose weight but I’m heavier than I wanted to be and can only hope to smooth it all out with good underwear

I should say next day delivery is a more expensive option at £5.99 but you can order until late in the evening...

CMOTDibbler · 08/08/2023 09:49

Love the dress, but that cardigan (though I love the back) does absolutely nothing for you - it is hanging over your figure and making you look shapeless as it hits on your widest part. I think you need something waist length instead

I agree I wanted to say the same thing but didn’t want to stress op out.

Could you get a casual jacket/blazer maybe jersey in say a pale pink? That would match with shoes.

Youthinkyoureuniqueyourejustastatistic · 08/08/2023 10:12

OP it looks stunning!! It’s a beautiful combination.
If you are comfortable then it’s a winner!!

This is probably just nerves - it’s exciting. I hope you have a lovely day.

My mum wore a very similar dress (with a similar colour blazer to your cardi - but it was April and overcast so needed more).

My mum was ill before my wedding and I wasn’t sure she’d be able to go. I’d have been happy if she was there in her pyjamas.

Hope you have a lovely day and makes lots of memories and take lots of pictures.

Was thinking the same thing. Looking at Next as it’s pretty much guaranteed tomorrow and idk when the wedding is.

This is cropped. But only in a 14. Could get away with being size 16. What size are you op?https://www.next.co.uk/style/ls316054/k02868#k02868

Or this in a number of sizes…but not really casual.

A little longer. Suede jacket is rather nice.

The dress looks nice and smart, I'd wear v thin tights to be bit smarter too.

The cardi is lovely from the back but I'm not sure about the front and the shoes don't look that comfy . If they are comfy then I'd try to get a smarter jacket or kimono style would modernize it as you are MOB.

Id also consider getting the real flower corsage made as a hair clip as that one is a little bit fussy if you are having a real one as well .

Wendysfriend · 08/08/2023 10:42

The dress looks a different colour in the second photo, it's red but pink in your 1st photo, or maybe it's my phone?

The poster @Mummyoflittledragon who advised on underwear gives good advice there. Sometimes with different underwear it can really pull an outfit together.

I'm going to be honest here and sorry for being straight forward but I wouldn't wear the cardigan, it's a lovely cardigan but not with the dress, the link above from @Mummyoflittledragon for the pink jackets are lovely and more suited to that type style of dress.

I know you said you probably won't wear it as it'll be warm, but sometimes just arriving we do tend to wear the 'whole' outfit and remove layers as the day goes on. Maybe use the cardigan for the evening if you're cold and it feels comfy on you.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/08/2023 19:12

I think the cardigan is the nicest bit tbh. It’s beautiful.

Have you tried the dress on and are you brave enough to share a pic? Is that feather clip for your hair?

Agreed.

StarPotential · 08/08/2023 10:50

Oh I see the pretty pattern on the cardigan is at the back. Sorry but it doesn’t suit the dress from the front. Do you have time to get something else as recommended by pps?

The cardigan is much nicer than any of them.

MNetcurtains · 08/08/2023 11:04

I agree with pps who say the cardigan does not go with the dress at all. Sorry.

GiveOverRover · 08/08/2023 11:17

If you like it and you feel good that is all that counts.

The dress looks great on you, you look great. I'm going to be honest and say that I agree with the knicker line at your waist, a control slip rather than control pants would sort that out. What is under is as if not more important than what goes over.

The cardigan is lovely with some jeans and a vest top, it doesn't go with the dress, it's too casual and hides your great shape, and confuses things.

The dress is one pink, the cardy another and the shoes are a third lilac ish pink which just dont tone in. I'd say you either need to swap out the shoes or the cardigan.

LadyLapsang · 08/08/2023 11:32

I think your hair looks fabulous and the hair piece looks good.

I love the pattern on the back of the cardigan but I don’t think it looks right with the dress.

I think you need some shape wear. I was at a wedding at the weekend and even the size 6 bridesmaids were wearing spanks to get a smooth line.

I think you should remove your ankle chain and wear some very sheer tights.

I am not sure of your size, maybe a 14? I wonder if a dress such as Phase Eight Daisie Ruffle Midi Dress in Soft Rose would work? John Lewis has one in stock reduced to 69.00 and if you order by 1pm you can collect it in Waitrose for free the next day, and free returns within 35 days. The dress has long sleeves so you wouldn’t need to worry about a jacket and the colour would work with the shoes and hair piece.

Apologies, I had only seen the back photo of the cardigan. You're right - it doesn't go.

Desperatenow1 · 08/08/2023 12:59

I bought those shoes as a very last minute option for a wedding I went to in June, I bought them as they were so comfortable in the shop compared to what I was going to wear. I wore them most of the day and just changed into some gold sandals in the evening.

LivelyBlake · 08/08/2023 13:55

Maybe long line jacket instead of the cardigan? https://www.next.co.uk/style/ls290918/p96401#p96401

and these also from Next: https://www.next.co.uk/style/ST192106/182455#182455

Just to note in my experience that style of high waist knickers of steel get hellishly uncomfortable very quickly and have a tendency to start rolling down and simply push fat up to just above their cut off.

If the OP needs control wear I think she'll have to go for a full body suit or a full slip.

Yeh I tried ones like this, which is why I linked the PLT ones as they don’t have a thick band so are a lot smoother. I am larger than op, have chronic pain and wouldn’t be able to wear the linked ones due to the thick band, which is beyond uncomfortable.

Garman · 08/08/2023 15:54

I think ditch the hair piece, it’s quite dated and looks a bit…cheap, with all the hot pinkness and feathers.

Desperatenow1 · 08/08/2023 20:02

I would ditch the hairpiece, it looks a bit cheap and they're not really in anymore.

Your hair is beautiful, so if you are going to do anything get a florist to make you a fresh flower clip to put in the morning of the wedding.

JaceLancs · 08/08/2023 23:23

Thank you everyone - your honest comments have been really helpful
I have been to M n S today and bought an all in one body that you wear with own bra (medium control)
then also a light control smoothing slip, I can wear either or even both!!!
Weather forecast has improved and now saying 26 degrees on the day so am hoping to ditch the cardigan altogether
The shoes are comfy so far but can change into sandals later if not

Take a wrap/pashmina in case it gets chilly, ditch the cardigan. Enjoy the wedding.
