Why are 28 band bras so rare?

I don't think I have a particularly narrow rib cage, but I require a 28 band bra. I can't be that rare, but it's very hard to find bras this size without spending £££.

M&S and the like don't carry many styles under a 30 band. I'm sure a lot of women actually require a 28 but settle for 30 or maybe even larger because they have to.

It's easier to find things in very large sizes than it is in smaller, even though 28 isn't particularly tiny anyway.

Honestly, I think for adult women, it is quite rare. DD is a size 6/8 and wears a 30 band.

Have you tried the teen section in m and s? They are ok- plus a bit cheaper.

magicalkitty · 05/08/2023 12:24

The teen section wouldn't work for me as I am a GG cup size which makes it worse.

As a teen I was a 32-35 band but I got smaller as I progressed through puberty and the fat deposited in other areas I suppose? My waist was larger as a teen too.

Agreed, I'm 28 band with a large cup size, currently also using maternity bras which obviously further limits my choices, my mum was horrified when I said I'd had to spend £80 on two new bras.

GloriousSludge · 05/08/2023 12:27

I’m a size 10 and wear a 28 band. Have for years, I only went up to 32 when I was a size 16. It’s a pain trying to buy 28H. Especially swimming costumes, where the size 10 is indecent on the bust and the bigger sizes are indecent everywhere else!

Even worse trying to buy bras for teen dd who really needs a 26 back…

Floisme · 05/08/2023 12:27

I'm a 28 F/FF and the only place I know that regularly stocks my size is Bravissimo.

Floisme · 05/08/2023 12:34

I forgot about BraStop - they certainly used to stock 28s and a reasonable range of brands but I'm not keen on shopping for bras online.

dementedpixie · 05/08/2023 12:35

I suppose its because the old style of measuring added 4 inches to your back size so someone measuring 28 inches would be put into a 32 back bra. Retailers/manufacturers don't seem to have caught up with the fact that you don't add extra inches and therefore a lot of women want bras with smaller back sizes and larger cup sizes.

Even teen bras don't go below 28/30 inches which was hard for dd when she measured 26 under bust but had to wear a bra too big in the back and too small in the cup.

magicalkitty · 05/08/2023 12:38

Yeah I think it's due to the adding 4 inches thing (which is illogical anyway if you think about it)

I'm aware of Brastop and Bravissimo, but it's annoying having to spend £35+ on a bra from a fancy brand when imo, 28 is a normal size, and 'normal sizes' retail for about £14 in Marks.

Because lots of women are fat

AnnaMagnani · 05/08/2023 12:40

I think it's rare because there are so many size 6-8 women wearing 30 or 32 backs because they are in the wrong size!

So the big high street retailers don't bother stocking 28s as there isn't demand - but neither do they measure women properly, they measure everyone to what they stock on the shelf whether it fits or not.

Nochoiceleft · 05/08/2023 12:41

Places like Marks & Spencer’s are still happily adding 4 unnecessary inches.

CarPour · 05/08/2023 12:46

I don't know. I get really annoyed that so few places stock it. I'm a 28 back and I'm really not that slim. A size 10, very average. There are a lot of women a lot smaller than me and I often wonder how the hell they buy bras?

I buy from boux avenue a lot but its not cheap

KnittedCardi · 05/08/2023 12:48

My DD's are both 28FF, twenty somethings, size 8's. We have always struggled to find Bras for them, especially when they were younger. I was already having to pay £35 when they were mid-teen and still changing size!

Ladyoftheknight · 05/08/2023 12:49

It is so difficult to find, I'm a size 2-4 atm and wear a 30 band, I've been smaller and needed a 28 and couldn't find them anywhere.

Beaux avenue are reliable for 28s, up to a DD I think (which I am)

happysunr1se · 05/08/2023 12:56

I'm in the same boat, 28g, but can settle for 30e/f depending on the brand. I'm not particularly small, wear size 10 or 12 clothes on top half. So many attractive bras don't go lower than 32 band.

Bikinis are difficult cos all the fashion ones just come in dress sizes so the choice is, go bigger to fit boobs in but they fall out underneath because band is so loose or a smaller size and hope there's enough boob coverage.

I bought a cheap size 12 bikini top from tesco last year and had success re-sewing the clasp on to make the band smaller.

MoonGeek · 05/08/2023 14:55

Fleur of England sell 28 band, but I am a 30 with them as they come up small IMO. Also, they are gorgeous.

I find it surprising too as I don't consider myself particularly small and often wonder where people who are actually slim shop.

Just checked ASOS... they have size 28GG in 38 different styles... reasonably priced compared to the brands mentioned here...

WhereAreWeNow · 05/08/2023 16:52

I'm a 28F according to Boob or Bust but I don't own any 28F bras. I just wear 30E or sometimes 32DD because it's easier and cheaper than trying to find 28F bras. I'm not really petite. Size 8 on top.

BettySundaes · 05/08/2023 17:13

Debenham, John Lewis sometimes carry a 28 or try ebay.

GettingStuffed · 05/08/2023 17:16

ASOS have a few bras in band 28 but only in larger cup sizes.

Fizbosshoes · 05/08/2023 17:16

DD is size 4 and 28D or E cup. She wears

Fizbosshoes · 05/08/2023 17:19

...30 because its easier (but not that easy!) To find. I was loathe to spend £40 on a bra when she was still growing. The lady who measured her in M and S just said it would be easier if she put on weight so she fitted the more regular sizes!!Confused (she is not underweight!)

user2468101214 · 05/08/2023 17:25

Hope you don't mind me asking how can you be 32 band and a size 16? I thought that band size reflected dress size - is this not necessarily true?

schooloflostsocks · 05/08/2023 17:28

I also have problems finding this size and I’m not tiny- I wear size 10 tops

ShanghaiDiva · 05/08/2023 17:33

Agree, nightmare. John Lewis online only i think. Dd is a size 4, 28DD and we went to beaux avenue (sp?) in the end
