Facial mole removal

I'm quite a moley person and have a few old ones on my face that are getting larger. Plus a new one that's forming at the end of my nose. I'm also getting age spots on my body.

Can anyone recommend what I can do to remove them please? What treatments? Procedures? Will they heal well? What about scarring?

If it's helpful to know, I'm in my 40s and I have private health insurance. I wonder, especially if there's a 'magic phrase' I could use to at least get the ones on my face removed under the terms of my insurance. Cosmetic procedures aren't covered.

No advice but sympathy - following as was just about to post this re my ds (14)

He has a lot and few are raised, couple that really catch when he has his hair cut. They are no-risk (had them checked) but he is getting really fed up with them catching and being called names

I had three removed from ym face. Came to £460 which was completely worth it. I have a very small scar for one bit nothing for the others. I used bio oil on all three for 6 months after removed. Did it at a Nuffield hospital

I know of 2 methods. Once is where they cut the mole out using an elliptical incision leaving 1-2 small stitches and the 'scar' is usually masked in natural folds or places on the body or the other is using a cautery tool that scrapes off the mole as well as sealing any blood vessels. This may be best for obvious places like the end of your nose.

Which option (or if there is another) would depend. If you self refer to a dermatologist via your local GP practice or you can go private, they will look at any that bother you and discuss the best option for you and the end result you want to achieve.

I had 3 moles removed from my face with the cautery tool. One on my forehead, one on the side of my nose and one on my chin.

I had to apply germolene cream for the first 24 hours. When the wounds stopped bleeding I was told to switch to Vaseline and then silicon scar cream for three months.

Basically keeping the area moist leaves less scarring and I am very pleased with the results and wish I'd done it years before. It cost £450.

Try Sk:n clinics. They do mole removal. The scars look awful for a few weeks but then they heal beautifully. A scar cream called Dermatix is very helpful in stopping scarring too. It’s totally worth it.. much better then having unsightly moles that affect your quality of life

I've had a couple removed from my face. The scars are visible and I've been asked about them maybe three times in 10 years.

I'd rather a scar than a big mole!

Cost around £400 total in a private clinic.

Thank you. This is all very helpful.

Jumping on here has im the same, they have ruined any confidence I had because they are the 1st thing you see... How/where have you all paid such little. I looked for months and lowest was 450 for ONE mole then a further 100 each for the rest! It's so depressing 😭

Sonolanona · 04/08/2023 23:53

I paid £350 about 6 years ago to have a mole removed (shaved and cauterised) from my upper lip. Worth every penny.
I also had a keratoacanthoma removed (on the nhs as they are similar to a basal cell carcinoma)..it was just under my nose and I do have a scar as there wasn't a lot of skin to stitch together.

I've had two rather big moles removed from my face. The surgery was done by a plastic surgeon doing the ellipse incision and many, many tiny stitches. I had it done ten years ago and there are literally no visible scars now. I strongly recommend going to a plastic surgeon if you want top results.

I had an unsightly mole removed from my chin. I went to GP as I was worried it had changed, referred to specialist also at GPs, he said it was fine but he could remove it. Was free! This was about 3 years ago.

Yes it does seem surprisingly cheap to have a mole removed in an area that might call for a plastic surgeon's services, hence my query about health insurance!

I did the same and you can't see where it was now.
I wasn't expecting him to offer to remove it but he did and it was on the NHS.
