Anyone else exhausted thinking about clothes and accessories?

Light hearted but just wanted to see if I'm the only one exhausted by trying to stay fashionable (as someone who is not naturally good at this sort of thing!)

I have over the past year tried to develop more of a capsule wardrobe...full of pieces that I can wear for years and they won't go out of style. Yet I think because of the UK weather, I have had to expand on the amount of clothes I have, especially in this weird summer winter spring clusterf**k weather we are having.

Part of the capsule wardrobe idea was to try and cut down on the amount of time I spend thinking about what I should wear, this hasn't worked. I still find myself trying to mentally plan outfits for work, meals out, day trips etc trying to incorporate our weird weather, its warm but also sideways rain and may have a chance of snow...better pair this lovely dress with … a trench coat?

And don't get me started on trying to figure out what style suits my body! I have big boobs so constantly trying to avoid frump.

Jealous of women who find this sort of thing so easy! Also if anyone has any tips...that would be great 👗

Have you tried looking on Pinterest? I think when it comes to capsule wardrobes there is in my opinion one ‘capsule’ that suits everyone as everyone’s lifestyle, taste and body etc is different. Do you like all of the items in your ward robe OP and do they suit your lifestyle?

Yes I have downloaded Pinterest and it has been a massive help for me putting outfits together! I find though that a lot of the pictures that come up are of women with little boobies and when I've tried to copy their style I look frumpy rather than fashionable haha

I need to buy more nice outfits for going out for dinners, work meetings etc that is where I am struggling at the minute. I need to find my style in that area first though, I have too many flowery dresses and I really don't suit them or like them anymore!

Feeling like I just want to join a nudist camp as it would mean no more thinking about what to wear 😆

What does look nice on you, suits your figure and is not uncomfortable?
What do you like to wear? Whose style do you admire? Who has a similar figure to yours?

I have very small boobs (sorry) so not much help but I wonder if you are overthinking it?

TreatYoBookShelf · 04/08/2023 15:19

I’m definitely overthinking it haha

I love European casual style and for going out I suit a sort of rock chick look, leather jackets and boots etc

I hate anything short! I’m learning more about what I suit but yet find myself always buying stuff with bloody flowers on it!!! 😂

@TreatYoBookShelf its hard not to sometimes!

I wonder if you could take some of that rock chick into the day time?

Dressing with big boobs is difficult so I very much sympathise with that. The trick is sometimes shoulder pads to make yourself look in proportion.

Now I am older I have decided upon a few shapes that suit me and I just replicate it again and again in different colours and fabrics. I even have the same shape for a wedding and a funeral with shoes and accessories ready to go.

Have a look at this op!

TreatYoBookShelf · 04/08/2023 15:43

Oh brilliant! See it’s amazing what a change in style can do to someone’s body shape. I hate showing off my boobs but then high necklines sometimes make me look way bigger than I am, I need to get more comfortable with lower necklines!

This is me including big boobs, plus short legs. It takes time and effort to find things that work on me.

Stylish and practical is hard.

Some people would say well just stop worrying and don't bother but I like to make an effort and what we wear is how we want the world to see us. But I would say no one else is judging us as much as we judge ourselves.

I agree with a PP that as I've got older I have developed a signature look and it's adaptable for each season and it's fairly mix and match. Always separates so, jeans or other trousers, top and something else whether that's a cardigan, bomber, blazer. Similar colours. Jazzed up with different jewellery. It's taken a long time for me to learn to focus on basics, you just get so much more wear out of them.

I don't think looking up to an aspirational style is helpful,, all the things I pinned on my board were aspirational, unrealistic for my lifestyle and don't suit my figure or life. I also find Pinterest these days really crap as the results are not accurately filtered out, too much random adverts amongst the pictures and lots of out of trend fashion styles and repeated photos. Pinterest has gone downhill, I think.

I started with footwear because I have fucked up feet and booborbust.com
Then I looked at my colour season online and entered my body measurement into an online calculator. Tried several, got the same result. Then I looked at what cuts suit my figure. Youtube and google was helpful. I watched loads of videos on this.
Then I decided on which 3 or 4 colours would I like for the seasonal wardrobe. I looked at where I go and what I do on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and then spent the more on things I wear daily like footwear, bras, socks. I looked at clothes that can be dressed up or down, I chose plain over patterned clothes and I chose clothes that can be layered and allow for some weight gain or loss as my weight fluctuates. This means for example A lines and Tunics that can be worn with leggings or bare legs or tights. A top can be put underneath or a cardigan on top.

I looked at my favourite outfits and what I wore often versus what I bought and wore once or even never and analysed why, often I bought things in the hope I'd be slimmer or because I wanted to 'reinvent' myself but the item is totally impractical for my daily and weekly life.

I made sure I bought only natural fabrics and things that can be machine washed. I returned all the meh purchases and only kept ones I absolutely loved even on my 'fat' bloated days. I stopped being for 'future fantasy' me.

Accessories metal also were picked according to my colouring season, face and body shape and the hairstyles I normally wear.

I find online shopping with a shopping list of specific items to fill a specific gap which will work in several outfit looks a far more productive experience than going into the high street.
