Anyone noticed how higher end make up has shot up in price?

I don't use a lot of make up and just replace what I use.
Mainly Bobbi Brown, Lancome mascara, Nars blusher, sometimes a little Clinique.

But it all seems to have shot up.
Mascara now £29 when it was £25, and everything seems to have jumped about 20%.

I always wait for discounts (J Lewis) but even so!

I buy the same couple of products over and over, and now try to wait for Harvey Nichols’ 15% off Beauty weekends.

I haven’t noticed prices increasing by much more than inflation in the past year, on the products I use anyway.

Is it quite small? That seems expensive.

It's 10g as a powder, so not very big. It's the only face make up I wear though, so I use it once a day. I could kind of justify £28 but the jump to £34 is substantial. I usually try to stock up when Marks have a 10 or 20 percent Sparks offer but they seems to be few and far between these days 🙁

Sign up to the John Lewis loyalty scheme, then you can take 5 empty beauty products and get £5 off your purchase. Details on their website. I got £5 off my last Bobbi Brown lipstick that way.

Already have thanks and do!

Interestingly, J lewis has reduced the Lancome range and is promoting this on the website. Not sure if it's a permanent reduction but the £29 mascara is now £23-ish.

I have one Bobbi Brown Luxe lipstick that used to be £25 and I always waited for a 15 or 20% discount. Now, it's £35.

I can't get my head around paying £30 for a lippie.

The Chantecaille lipstick I like is £40 and regularly sold out. The demand seems to be there so they can get away with it!

Oh my god yes. I only wear Chanel and a couple of Estée Lauder and Chanel has gone up massively. £10 on some products. I wonder why. Very annoying.

i love high end makeup but am trying to use more korean products instead nowadays

But can't find replacements for this:

  1. nars copocabana
  2. suqqu blush
  3. mac eyeshadow (heard there is a MUA dupe for club eyeshadow but mac eyeshadow isn't super expensive and it lasts ages anyway)
  4. chantecaille mermaid eye color
  5. urban decay setting spray

I like individual eye shadows Estée Lauder had enormous shortages during lockdowns so I ended up buying Mac which I discovered was a good substitute..EL abandoned single eyeshadows so I'm glad I changed. We're in N Wales since Debenhams went there's no chance to try high end anyway so it's an online lottery

Andanotherone01 · 09/08/2023 15:41

I think EL and Mac are part of the same group.

I know Clinique are part of the group. Estée Chinese controlled now anyway

Yes went to replace a Bobbi brown bronzer but it was ££'s so have bought a £2 collection one instead!

justasking111 · 10/08/2023 11:40

I'm guilty of inertia I keep buying the same product, high end cosmetic companies rely on this so jack the price until you actually think wait a minute and start shopping around.

So much is marketing costs they. Well wait a minute they're using Instagram etc which does reduce their costs and we the customer are sharing, liking, following their products.

Sometimes the cheap stuff really doesn't cut it ingredients wise. But it's good to be flexible
