Nail varnish that stays on

I can never keep nail vanish on for more than a day. I just seems to melt off my nails. Even if I make a conscious effort to mind them it ends up all chipped (I mean half way down my nail) really quickly.

I want something that will stay on for a few days at a time. Any recommendations? I'd like my nails to look nice for holidays

I've had shellac/ acrylics/ gels I found they all destroyed my nails

@pontipinemum I get mine professionally applied by a nail tech, I'm not sure of the brand she uses x

A nice day coat of Essie Good to Go on top of virtually any brand (but ordinary nv, not the one coat or fast drying kind) and use your fingertips or knuckles for stuff (pressing buttons etc) and avoid using fingernails.

Argh 'a nice fat coat'.

I bought the Maybelline one today. I also bought the base and top layer bottles. DH was 'horrified' that I didn't use a primer (he's a fitter and sometimes has to spray things he makes). But thought I was fancy for getting a 'lacquer' 😂

I'll see how we go

I also recommend the Maybelline plus Seche Vite.

All the polishes that stay on well (Barry M, Essie) ruin my nails. I was optimistic about biab but I read that loads of women are allergic to it and some say it still damages nails. So I’ve given up! I just moisturise them a lot and wash my hands with bar soap because that makes them whiter.

EmmaEmerald · 07/08/2023 08:17

is Barry M really that good?

I find my nails chip on my right hand first; the hand that does the most work. I've toyed with using rubber or latex gloves for housework etc but feel a bit of a fool.

If I'm going to bother to do a home manicure I try to think what I'm likely doing in the next few days; ie not going to the local tip, gardening etc.

For anyone who is interested this is how the Maybelline worked out. Top is last Sunday, bottom are today. As you can see left hand is still pretty decent. Right hand is well worn away, but that is usually how both hands look after 1 maybe 2 days so it's a huge improvement! Also I haven't really minded them, I have 1 yr old so washing him, showers, I help on our farm, 90% of the time forget my gloves when washing pots.

Over all I must say I am very happy.

I always 'cap' my nails by brushing the top after I've finished with the topcoat to seal the edges.

Just started doing my own led nails with manucurist green flash. Supposed to be skin friendly. Comes off in 2 minutes when I wrap them with no saved nails

It looks like it lasted well and you did quite a professional looking job. I love popping nail varnish on (like the brands mentioned) but it chips easily and then my nail tips themselves chip. I'm going au natural for awhile. Using lots of oils, vaseline hand cream and a bit of buffing.
