Laser hair removal, no results after 5 sessions

I’ve been having laser hair removal on my face for the past few months, I am pale, but have thick, dark coarse hair on the sides of my chin and corners of my lips, with a few dotted on the sides of my face. No idea why, had hormones and ovaries checked no issues, I’m just generally very hairy and always have been.

I’ve now had five sessions and I’ve not really seen any results, the clinic has excellent reviews, but the sessions are very very quick, the whole lasering process only takes them a few minutes and doesn’t hurt at all, it’s also IPL they are using rather than laser, which I believe is less effective?

I asked them how many sessions I would need to see results and they said usually 10-15? This seems to be quite a lot based on what I’ve googled (google is saying 6-8). Should I switch clinics or does this sound about right?

The best laser is the Alexandrite one. Everything else is nonsense, sorry. It took 3 sessions do laser my face and I got results right from the first one.
They might be using the lowest setting to keep those sessions and the money coming. Or you might be oneof the unlucky ones for whom laser brings out hair under the skin so you end up hairier.
Beauticians are supposed to be using stronger stuff than what you can use at home but maybe that explains those 15 (say what?!) sessions.
Quite frankly at 5 sessions I'd be voting with my feet. If you've got absolutely no results whatsoever get going towards the door.
Reviews can be faked!

IPL is nowhere near as strong as Lazer. I would switch to Lazer. I reckon they aren't using enough power either. IPL feels like an elastic band pinging. Lazer is much more directed tiny speckles of pain.
You literally feel the hair roots being zapped.
Change clinic and change to proper Lazer.

Definitely go somewhere else. Also, as previous posters have said, IPL is nowhere near is strong as proper laser. All the clinics local to me only offered IPL so I travelled further afield to get my laser. I'm getting towards the end of my 12 sessions now.

I noticed results after the first session. And by the 5th session, my hair became very thin and patchy. A lot had gone. You should also be able to feel the laser. You shouldn't be sitting there in pain, but you should be able to feel a slight pinch so you know the hairs are being zapped. The upper lip area is very sensitive and it's one of the places where you feel it the most.

Obviously there are rare cases where laser just doesn't work on someone. However, in your case, I think it is more likely that either the IPL isn't strong enough, or the person carrying out the treatment doesn't know how to use it properly.

Yes, as previous posters have said, IPL is useless, you need to find somewhere that uses a medical grade laser. You will see results from the first session.

I'm getting Lazer on legs. 5 sessions in and it pretty much all gone. That's what you should expect, not zero impact!

Badatmostthings · 03/08/2023 14:01

Would you consider electrolysis? Although slower and perhaps a little more uncomfortable it is definitely permanent.

UnicornStarfish · 03/08/2023 14:09

Uncomfortable is the understatement of the century! But you're 100% right. With electrolysis once gone it's gone forever. With laser, once gone maybe it'll be gone for a while but unlikely to be forever.

I’ve read some stuff that said if the causemof the hair growth is hormonal kmbalance - which it usually is with facial hair - then electrolysis is the only solution

Ie lazer maynwork great on arms lefs etc places you expect hair butnif you try it on your face it mag not work as well and mag even trigger more dark hair growth

Good luck, I’ve soent w fortune on electrolysis, it’s so slow and very expensive, I’m £1k in and to get rid of all my unwanted facial hair is probably another £2k, but it does work

The thing is as women, well the ones that were born female with all them girlie bits 😁 sooner or later we all go through hormonal changes. There's literally no escape. It's a fact of life. Sooner or later our ovaries go downhill. Some feel it less but we all feel it. It will happen, there's literally no escape. Laser will always be a temporary solution innit! Unless society changes and makes it culturally acceptable for me to proudly look like Poirot had a child with a monkey.

Hard say op. I got 3 on my lip. She thinks maybe ten maybe more. Says face is hormonal. I buy a few more. I got a good reduction i need few more though
